ARB Bushes

Hello list

2001 A2 Tdi 74,000 miles.

I know the problem with the ARB bushes has been covered many times.

I was just wondering what damage I am likely to do using the car before I get them sorted.

About 2 months ago, they started "creaking & moaning" when the steering wheel was turned when the car was stationary, the car now rattles on bumpy roads.

I don't want to get the job done here in France, but I am not scheduled to be back in the UK for another 1,000 miles or so.

Am I likely to cause any other damage?

Thanks in Advance

I'm sure it will be fine until you get back. You might want to replace the drop-links if they haven't been done recently.

Similar symptoms can also be caused by the top strut bearings (creaking) and drop links (rattling on bumpy roads)

Worst thing that can happen with your old style roll bar is when the plastic bushes completely detatch from the roll bar, allowing it to move sideways in the rubber bushes and knock on the sub frame. For a temporary fix, centralise the roll bar and fit hose clips round the bar to stop it moving.

Cheers Spike

Hello Spike

Hmmm, thanks for that, I had assumed it was the ARB bushes because of the problems others had experienced, the creaking started around the beginning of June & was only audible when turning the steering wheel whilst stationary & progressed onto rattling on bumpy roads a couple of weeks ago.

I will have a lie down on the road in front of the car and see if I can get it to move.

Will do in any case.

Ruddy cars - the climate control has packed up on my galactic mileage A2, which has never had any suspension noises/problems in the 200,000 miles I have done in it & the A2 I bought at Christmas last year has only done 2,000 miles since then and sounds like a tin can full of spanners.

Take care
