Are 1.4 petrol AUA + BBY cylinder heads the same?

Hopefully one fo you A2 Gurus can help me.I'm looking at buying a new bare 1.4 petrol cylinder head but unsure if the heads are the same and don't want to shell out if it's wrong? There are the obvious difference when looking at them in the car as one is spark plug leads and the other is coil on plug.My engine is a BBY, are they the same heads and cam covers? Thanks in advance cheers Mark.

So I guess that means that Mark can't use his current Cam Covers on the BBY head? (i.e. is the difference in the Cover locating structure and so impossible to swap?)

Hi Steve - if Mark has bby engine which I believe he has he can just use his existing rocker cover and cams which will just attach to the new head casting . If he has an aua engine the head I believe is universal but the rocker cover casting is unique to aua or bby variants
Hope this is clear
Cheers Dave

I was about to post a reply to Steve. I won't be able to use Daves new top cover (holds cams) because of the difference in entry holes through the cover between spark plug lead and coil on plug.So it looks like your cam cover is only suited to a aua engine otherwise they are identical.

Mark states in #1 that he DOES have the BBY engine so I am slightly confused, since you say he CAN therefore just swap his cover over?

Perhaps I should step out of the conversation since I just seem to be causing confusing rather than helping

No problem Steve - it’s slightly confusing as the petrol 1.4 engine consists of 3 elements - the block / the head which is just a valve carrier in effect / and the rocker cover casting which holds the two cams.
Hope this is helpful - cheers Dave?
