Are the Standard seats this uncomfortable?

Hey all!
I have the standard seats in my 1.2tdi and I can't get myself comfortable! It seems the headrest curves backwords (why such a big hole?) and that I have to bend my head back to rest on it, it ends up that I get a neck and back ache from light travel.

Is there something I'm missing, or an available accessory or...?

Kevin

From your description it sounds like your headrests are facing the wrong way - mine are tilted slightly forward. Remove each headrest, turn them round the other way and refit them - they should be fine then.

I understand that Audi call them head restraints - not headrests - because they are not designed for the head to be in contact while driving. They are only there to prevent whiplash in the event of an accident.

The only reason that the head restraints are there is to stop excessive rearwards movement of the head in a rear impact.

Unfortunately, those fitted to most Audi models before 2006-ish were deemed to be of a poor design and the A2 was included in this.

Post 2006, most Audi headrests became an active design, where they actually pivot forwards to meet your head in the event of a crash. These are visually distinguishable by having a button on the side of them.

They'll save your neck in a typical low speed shunt, but that's all and they are certainly not there to act as a headREST.

Cheers,

Mike

I've had my A2 for 2.5 years now and over this last 6 months have suffered from a very stiff neck that often makes cracking noises! I was wondering if my body (neck and head in particular) was stiffening unduely to counteract the tendency for the A2 to jolt on the increasingly poor roads. My previous Cavalier was a bigger car (and wheels/tyres) and gave a smoother ride. The Cavalier had headrests but I don't recall actually resting my head on them. Any thoughts?

My problem was pain in the lower back until I discovered that my car has electric lumbar adjustment. Pain now gone and smile has returned.

I agree with the responses about 'headrests' being safety restraints rather than a place to rest your head.

EDIT: I found an even better headrest pillow!! http://www.ajprindle.com/products/sku-12715__id-68__orderby-nw.html[/QUOTE]

Ah, USA. I did some google searching and found these:

Harley Travel Pillow (4079) from Mr Pillow
£35 and not specifically designed for a car headrest, but could be adapted

Seems pricy.

HARLEY TRAVEL CARE 'VALUE' PILLOW (4051)
Not memory foam but is 'bone' shaped. Again would need elastic straps.
Buy it now £8 + £5 p&p

MEMORY FOAM LUMBAR PILLOW, BACK & NECK SUPPORT CUSHION
On eBay and currently £6 + £2.50 p&p with 2 days to go. Looks like it could easily be adapted with some elastic straps. No mention of colour (one in ad is blue, but that is the removable cover, so another cover could be made)

I think the last one might be worth a shot.

Something similar here in sort of grey colour

and again even cheaper

I like the one with the removable cover for 6 pounds, I can picture it now, have the interior done in leather and at the same time do the head cushions :D I would be tempted to cut them down though to be a bit less gigantic!
