AUA 1.4 misfire cylinder 2 - trim readings

ooooh - not so exciting....

message below for my own recollection as much as anything.

Last weekend I decided to give her a fresh 5W30 castrol oil (a mighty 200 miles since tlast one) change before putting all the wheelarch liners and undertray back.

A few days later and she had only just enough battery to start up (then steering went due to low V) etc but also the misfire kicked in again! lights were dim on tickover and only brightened with rpm.

Whats draining the battery? Stereo? Note the aerial was disconnected from teh rear of the head unit after I added the bluetooth adapter - could that have had an effect?

Note that since the misfire went away she has taken a couple more cranks to fire up (poor earth or poor positive battery cable?)

Later that day as I was driving - the alternator lamp came on and the engine died (luckily at 5mph). Turned over again and OK but got home and the misfire on 2 was present at idle again...

So.... electrics or "oil change" to blame?

I checked earth again and was fine but added another strap. 12.7V from alternator to both earth straps and 14.4 running. Note there was some coolant on the starter motor earth strap from the pipe above (thermostat housing) - so I took the strap off the starter motor and put it on the block (also added a 2nd earth as below).

Am going to let the auto electrician take a look - especially on the motor dying/alternator lamp.

If electrics it must be alternator related (esp with the red alternator warning when the engine died)? New recon alternator which means it then should be cable? Where does the cable go? I follow it to the starter motor area but it then disappears inside a sheath and under the composite shield aorund the starter... I will dig out a 7 Zap image but electrics aint my bag - edit found it below - cable just goes to the starter.

Maybe the dripping coolant then?

If oil change (how the hell could it be?) then my next job is valve seals and tappets (bearing in mind that the clean up of the cam housing / tappets did seem to cure this previously). Any recommendations on valve seals?

I was getting bored of having nothing to fix anyway :)

Removed the starter motor earth and put it on the block to engine mount base

added 2nd earth block to original chassis earth point (note no starter motor earth)
