Audi A2 - Advice please on Rear Suspension and Tyre

Hey Fellow A2 Members,

Hope you are all well.

Looking at these pics of my A2's Rear Suspension, what do you think needs to be done?

Also previous owner put on Marshall Tyres, what Tyres do you think are suitable for the A2 please that give good fuel economy and low Road noise? Tyre size is 185 / 50 - 16.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to hearing from you all soon.

Thank you.

Are your shock absorbers leaking or clunky? If not just lightly rub down rust on bottom, treat and paint black.
Is your car a sport model or se. As for your springs i would purchase
Either 2 new rear springs as best to replace as a pair.
Or if your car is a sport or if you want to lower car consider buying a complete spring kit. That's what i did on my sport model it lowered car by 10mm. 30mm lowered in total over standard.

Looking at the photos, it appears that a coil has broken off the right-hand spring. The PUR spring seats (that sit between the rear axle and the bottom of the spring) also appear to be perished. This is an extremely common problem, but replacements are cheap.
The top spring seats (that sit between the car's chassis and the top of the spring) are much more durable and have an easier life, so are probably OK.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Guys,

Thank you so much for your advice.

Should I buy genuine Audi Springs or Spidans please?

Also what about the arm that connects to the Drum break I think, does that need changing please?

Thank you ???

This is an integrated part of the rear axle. It does not need replacing. What you see is just unsightly surface rust.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Guys,

So my Audi is an A2 1.4 TDI SE 2002 and at the previous owner has put Tyre size 185 / 50 16 on it and I have a funny feeling it's wrong?

Please what correct size can I put on my A2? Can I put 195 / 45 16 on it?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you.

The short answer is look at the inside of the fuel flap. - Andy

My two observations were, the O/S spring broken (already mentioned) and the O/S brake pipe looks a bit corroded.

The rest of it looks fine to me.

Hey All,

Thinking of getting the Bridgestone Turanza T005 195 45 16, what does everyone think about these?

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Thank you.
