Hi all. Looking to connect up my bose install on my a2 tdi. Does it need coding after install? If so any ideas what the code should be? Car has diversity aerial and no mfsw.
Thx steve

Yes, the head unit needs to be coded. Assuming you've got a Chorus II, Concert II, Symphony II, etc, you'll find that there are 5 coding bits. The middle bit needs to be a 2. So, XX2XX.

Thx tom. I've got the concert 2. Will the head unit work otherwise? Without coding. Just want to know what to expect when i power everything up.

Does your car alreay have rear speakers? Can you adjust the front/back volume (fader) as well as the left/right volume (balance)?

Yes all works.

Ok, this lets me know how your head unit is currently coded.

Yes, if you install the Bose system, it will just work without any coding changes. The line-level outputs from the head unit will be 'too hot' for the Bose amp's inputs, meaning you'll not have great volume control resolution and you'll easily clip the inputs if you're not careful. Also, the EQ will be a bit wrong. However, you'll be able to test your physical installation.
I hope that makes sense. When I'm not working on A2s, I'm an audio systems engineer, so I don't know how much of the above is subject-specific jargon!

Cheers,

Tom

Yep. Makes perfect sense. What ur saying is that it will work but not as it should. And to have it coded at earliest possibility.

Hi tom. I have vcds lite and on
Common
56 radio
It gives an option to recode - 07
When i click on it a new box appears with software coding 0-32767 mines 00001
And workshop code 0-99999 mines 02138
Do these codes mean anything to u?

mines 00001

This is the code you're looking to alter. 00001 is your current coding.

Assuming you've got a Chorus II, Concert II, Symphony II, etc, you'll find that there are 5 coding bits. The middle bit needs to be a 2. So, XX2XX.

So, your coding will need to change to 00201.

I have never used the Lite version of VCDS, so have no idea whether you're able to alter coding or not.

Cheers,

Tom

A good analogy is it's like having a space-saver tyre on the car, it'll work but just don't leave it on there or go speeding with it ;)

I often feel the same way when chatting about about pharmaceutical chemistry but I read your post and my brain read it as '???????? Bose ?????? Work ??????? un-good!' Way to go brain!
