Audi A2 from Sweden

Hi Danne
I also live in Stockholm. I have problems with my engine. It jerks at low throttle at contact speed. Sometimes the dash board lights up like a christmas tree an beeps load. This always happens when it jerks heavily. There are no error codes on the engine. On the ABS part it says something about the ECU. I have gone through a lot and replaced about all sensors that can be replaced including cleaned Throttle body and new EGR. I am starting to think the ECU is faulty. How can you check the ECU? Can you uppdate the ECU software?

Hi @BJohan
Which engine does your A2 have?
Mac.

I have seen from the dealership diagnostics that early AUA have faulty ECUs that was recommended to replace.

Maybe but what you are describing sounds a lot like a lot of people’s experiences. At low throttle low revs in a low gear they can be a bit kangarooy

I don't think this jerkyness is normal. It can happen in 30-40 mph on third gear at low throttle. Also this alarming beep and flashing display says something not normal is happening.

No that’s not normal, does it ever shut down and stop all together after this?

When this happens it does not respond to throttle at all. It goes into limp mode. After you stop and restart the engine you can drive away like nothing has happened.

Ok that’s an EPC issue, could be the wiring from the throttle pedal or the throttle body. Or the throttle body itself. Or the throttle pedal. Could also maybe be the ecu. I’ve had a throttle body fault on a 1.4 bby and it used to come up like a Christmas tree then shutdown the car.

I have replaced the throttle body with a used one and it made no difference. I have also replaced the throttle pedal with a used one, No difference,

About the VCDS scan, did you first clear all error codes, and then took it for a drive and then scanned again, and that is what you showed? Or what were the circumstances?

My daughter had the car for a few days and this beep and flashing display happened many times. When she came back I took the scan. I did not clear any codes before I took the scan.

Might be helpful to :
clear error codes-drive until limp home or christmas tree - scan, to get a feeling for whats going on?

After half an hour driving in different conditions I managed to provoke the beep and Christmas tree. It happened on first gear at very slow speed. No limp mode this time. I could just drive on with all lights on the dash board ligting. I made a vcds scan without turning the engine off.

17961 - Barometric / Manifold Pressure Signals: Implausible Correlation

P1553 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

It doesn't say anything to me. When the engine is jerking I could imagine the pressure signal from the manifold is pretty chaotic.

Have a read of this. Seems timing related

Sad to say I have already done everything they mention. I have replaced the cambelt and it was actually out of timing. I have also cleaned the throttle body and adapted it with vcds. I also tried with another throttle body and it made no difference. I have replaced the MAP sensor. I have replaced the coil.

Ok is your cam sensor after market by any chance?
