Hi all,
I already have fitted a RNS-E, MFSW with rollers phone system and full DIS... but yes but
Iv just been offered a full pop up multimedia / sat nav & phone system from a 2013 A3 with all the car loom and anything I require to fit it ..
BUT how will I go on with the can-bus or is it as simple as it will all talk to each other through there connected can-bus ( not the DIS as I think its the wrong can-bus version)if you get what I mean..
yes I know there will be a lot of work to fit the module 1 infant of the gearstick but i think its a goer....
please let me know what your thoughts are ...
 
Won't work, because the CAN requires translation. There are some kits online which allege functionality, but reports are spotty at best.

Not sure if it's appropriate for this application but Craigyb has used a CANgate module on several projects to make incompatible 'infotainment' components talk to each other.
The module was made by a guy called 'bjarne' in the States

...and it's the CANgate stuff which was available in Germany which caused several people to get very upset. Feel free to try, don't be surprised if it doesn't work.

I was thinking on the lines of using all the components that are used in the wiring diagram related to the MMI then all the can's are the same to talk to each other ... other than that and 2 forms of power why wont it work ???
 
cangate appears to be necessary for 193 series RNS-E or higher. Anything higher than that will probably talk another CAN version.

Don't get confused between the cangate and the "can gateway".

Cangate's were made by Bjarne in the states to fix an issue with the RNS-E and the C5 A6/B5 A4 chassis's.

Can gateways are the heart the modern cars and bring all the cars can data buses into a central location, passing messages between the differing buses and speeds.

I don't have the time or inclination to do anything with the A2 any more. I only keep it for a run around as it's cheap. It hasn't moved for over a month.
 
Sorry its taken so long to reply to posts but I got called away ....
I will take in what you all have said and I'm hoping to set it all up on the bench with all the looms stripped out of the cars loom and see if I can get any life ..
there are some nice android popup units has anybody seen or tried one...
