Audi chorus 1 to concert 2 upgrade ?

No it doesn't! Super annoying. I actually cannot remember if there is a cable to connect to lights or not but that's on my list!

personally i would put in an original Concert 1 (non Blaupunkt) should work without modding the wiring for illumination
if you are not bothered about losing the CD as you will have bluetooth

Yes, I'm thinking the same. I've just been hunting on eBay but can't see any decent ones. They are all blaupunkt.

I believe your car is pre proper canbus so i doubt there is issue with the radio

You could buy / fit a Concert 1 which was fitted pre 2001 (DO NOT buy blaupunkt make) getting rarer to find though
and fully recommend bluemusic direct from the supplier far superior SQ and usability than other bluetooth streaming modules works without a hitch.
@fin199 i have already linked it under Concert 1 hyperlink non Blaupunkt

Sorry I meant for a Audi concert 1 stereo head unit. They are few and far between on eBay.

Thank you! Just purchased! You've been a great help

it comes with the code most don't!
hopefully the previous owner hasn't not butchered the wiring to fit that aftermarket radio

I think from what I remember all the wiring was intact. I think they used an adapter or it just plugged straight in. Can't quite remember but I'll work it out.

OK might be worth waiting till you get the Concert 1 all plugged in and working
before purchasing the BlueMusic BT adapter

Evening,

I’ve tried to follow the thread which has changed directions so not fully sure which direction you’re looking to pursue so I’ll try to help out with your original questions…

Without testing the Concert 2 myself I couldn’t say if it’s working correctly or not but any guess at the issue is purely that.

Although the later generation head units aren’t infallible, they’re actually quite reliable. My guess (and it is a guess) is that these could well be an issue with the CANBus emulator but I’m no expert on these aftermarket items. Your absolute best option is to correctly wire up the Concert 2 to your earlier generation head unit connectors, if you’ve managed to add the emulator then I assume you’d find this retrofit/upgrade a doddle.

As for the front speakers not working, a simple check is to remove the beige 8 pin connector and plug it back in as it might be incorrectly seated. The issue could also be an intermittent earth going to the Tel Mute pin on the Concert 2 so please check the pinout label on the head unit and compare it to the pinout of the Chrous 1 which your car is wired up for.

Shame you’re not closer as this is such a straightforward upgrade that I’d have it sorted for you rather quickly. Quite happy to talk you though the process if you’re up for doing it yourself. Just confirm which direct you’re wishing to take and I’ll help out.

Edit: I’m quite certain that I put up a post somewhere on here which explains the generation 2 head unit CAN (Infotainment/convenience) upgrade with pictures etc. I’ll look for it shortly or in the morning as I need to finish off some wiring in the garage right now.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hey Tom,

Thanks for this, very helpful. I didn't think that a concert 2 could easily be wired into a 2000 Audi A2 that doesn't have a canbus connection for the radio? If you have a solution I'll definitely give that a go.

Hi,

Here’s the thread where I added a few details about upgrading from generation 1 to 2. You obviously know which pins on the black 20 pin connector are for CAN High and Low so you just need to understand where to get the correct supplies from so you can eliminate the emulator altogether.

Thread 'Audi concert no button lights?'
https://www.a2oc.net/community/index.php?threads/audi-concert-no-button-lights.57146/

Edit: If you done have full DIS, rear speakers or a factory boot mounted CD changer then you’ll not have the black 20 pin connector to put the 2 CAN wires into. Let me know if this is the case as I’d easily be able to send you this connector with a twisted pair of CAN wires fitted that you can take to either the instrument cluster of the climate panel, depending on what arrangement you currently have.

Kind regards,

Tom

Since you’ve just purchased the Concert 1, you should be able to cancel the eBay order. And with Tom, you’re in good hands for the Concert 2 super helpful guy.

Personally, I prefer the Concert 1 — it has a hard-touch finish and doesn’t suffer from the issues seen in later models.

Concert 1

Pros:
  • Hard-touch buttons (more durable)
  • Better looking, in my opinion
  • Should be plug and play for your year of car
Cons:
  • Cassette only
  • Some later units made by Blaupunkt, which are prone to pixelated displays and volume control problems

Concert 2

Pros:
  • Larger screen
  • CD player
Cons:
  • Soft-touch coating tends to degrade over time, especially on the buttons
It’s worth noting that for most users, the cassette or CD functionality isn’t really used these days; most rely on the radio or a Bluetooth adapter for streaming and talking phone calls

Best of luck!
