Hi Guys
I'm new to the forum having just acquired a 20002 A2 1.4 SE.
The previous owner replaced the audi head unit (I guess cassette player)with a rather tacky pioneer CD unit and I want to fit a Symphony/ Concert unit.

There are plenty for sale on EBay but as usual Audi are not very forthcoming as to compatability.
Can anyone help me out with correct model numbers?

Hi there Tony, welcome to the forum ;)

Is your 2002 A2 a 2003 model or a 2002 model? I think they switched models in about 07/2002.

After that date, A2's have a so-called CAN-BUS, for which there are different Concerts/Symphonies than there are for A2's without CAN.

I found a partnr for a non-CAN-BUS Concert II at the bottom of the following thread:

http://www.a2forum.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3248&SearchTerms=Concert

If your A2 had CAN, but also had an aftermarket head unit, there might be some adapter wiring in place. Unfortunately I have no experience with that, so I don't know what to look for (My 2003 A2 came without radio and had ISO connectors in place).

As for other part numbers: no idea. Maybe a dealer is willing to provide them?

Thanks for the help Swiv,
My car is registered April 2002 so I am assuming pre CAN BUS, however I haven't taken delivery yet so I'm not sure.
How do you tell the two systems apart? is the connector plug different?

Sorry for the late reply. Have been busy with my house and Valentine's Day....

Unfortunately I cannot comment on CAN in real life.
I did read around a bit on a German A2 forum last week and found out that others there are buying radio's for either the A2 itself, or originally for the TT or A6.
Parts for the A2 all start with "8Z".
Fitting radios from the A6 (up till model 2004, I read) start with "4B".
Fitting radios from the TT start with "8N".

In fact, I found this list. But I think they're all for what they call '2nd generation', so with CAN. According to the page I found this list on, CAN should be retrofitted somehow, but the details escaped me. But maybe the partnumbers (and list prices (2003)) are valuable anyway

If you want to retrofit a Symphony, that´s a little difficult, as you need a new center console with the double-DIN-Space, and new climate controls (the ones for the SatNavPlus and Symphony have rounded lower corners). If you can not get these parts used from somewhere, they are quite expensive (meaning you can buy a really nice colour-slide-out-screen-Headunit for that price...

Bye, Frido.

Wow, you guys certainly know your stuff.
Thanks for the advice especially on fitting Symphony, I was tempted by not having to fit a seperate CD changer but obviously it's not worth the hassle.
I'm now thinking about a Blaunpunkt system, maybe a Miami head unit and a CD changer.
Picking the car up tomorrow so I'll have a look over the weekend.
Thanks again
Tony
