Audi MOT Protection £49.99

My MOT is due next month and having looked at the Audi website they are offering a MOT protection scheme for £49.99 where they seem to be covering any work required on the car up to £750 should the car fail its MOT. Seems to good to be true anyone had any experience of this?
Having read the T+C's this statement seems a bit confusing:

Registration under this Cover is at the
discretion of the Audi Approved Centre and shall be extended only
to those vehicles that:
iii) cars between 3 years and up to 7 years of age with a period of
not less than 6 months remaining before the next MOT test becomes
legally due.

Why would you want a MOT more than 6 months early?

Thanks James

Why would you want a MOT more than 6 months early?

Because you have a known fault and want the car to fail its MoT so you can claim.

I looked into this recently. Ipswich Audi said it wouldn't cover faults on the MoT due now, but on the next one. So your car has to pass, then you pay an insurance premium to cover you for the next one. Most, if not all, wear & tear items are excluded. I didn't bother. But I did take up the free MoT offer & it passed :)

I thought there must be a catch Audi dont really make this very clear in their advert a bit naughty!
I will probably give the free Audi MOT a go but I was wondering if they did fail the car on something which I didn't agree with what are my options. Do the faults get registered on a MOT network type register so if I take the car somewhere else they would be able to see what Audi failed it on?

The mot test details are entered on a national data base, before the mot pass/fail form is printed out for you..

I never bothered with the Audi free mot, if they want to they can always find something depending how much work they have on?

Mine is due in the next few weeks, I will pay for it, as I know where I stand.

On the subject of the free MoT, last year my previous A2 failed its free MoT at Ipswich Audi. I was a little suspicious, but they were kind enough to lift the car and show me the excessive wear in the NSF wishbone balljoint. A bit surprising for a 47k 6 year old car, but maybe the previous owner drove it on poor roads, and the NSF spring had also broken previously.

They quoted about £200, but I decided to DIY and bought the wishbone from them for £90 and fitted it myself. I then took it elsewhere for its re-test and it passed.

I always take the car for its test a couple of weeks early so that I have time to fix it if necessary. You can have it tested up to 4 weeks early and the expiry date will be 12 months from the expiry date of the current cert.

The only thing stopping you driving your car after it has failed, but while it still has a valid cert, is if it fails for something that makes the car dangerous. You'll be told very clearly by the tester if this happens.

Our current car passed first time earlier this month, so I have no concerns over the of the free MoT offer, the honesty Ipswich Audi, or the MoT test station that they use, Landspeed. By the way, they will be getting their own MoT bay soon, I'm told (I know there are a few fellow Suffolk boys here).

Thanks Mark/Clubsport for your replies, I will probably give the free MOT a go this time just to test the water although I have never been impressed with Yeovil Audi so will expect it to fail!
I am waiting for a reply from Audi at the moment as I also want a fixed price service carried out but not sure if I can have them both done at the same time. Small print states offers not to used in conjuction with any other offer! Annoying if i have to take two trips.

Thanks again James
