Today I enquired at my local Audi dealer (Sutton Coldfield) about what will happen to my 3 year warranty when I move to France. I had assumed nothing would change as long as I continue to use a main dealer for my servicing. Sadly I was wrong. I was told that as soon as my car is serviced by a French Audi main dealer then my warranty defaults to the European standard 2 year warranty. If I want to keep my 3 year UK warranty then I would have to return to the UK to get my car serviced.

I thought I would share this information as I know in past threads some people have spoken about driving to places like Holland for their serving as it is a lot cheaper than the UK.

Has anyone heard else heard about this situation?

Most all new warranties on all brands work like that. Two years and mostly only 1 year manufacturers warranty and the remaining 1 or 2 years is carried by your dealer...

In Holland this not apply as an angry owner of a Huyundai once went to court when there was something realy wrong with his car.
As he once had his 1½ year old car broke down he aplied for his guarantee.
The dealer did not want to give the service as he once had new oil at a local not official dealer.
The man did not want to pay for something which should have been a normal guarantee case.
And as he was a lawyer he went to court and won the case.
As in Holland we have a law system that says that once there is a case it also apllies for simmular cases different car dealers had to give guarantee also on cars who were serviced by other garages.
The court said that any oficial garage is capable of a service interval and that the dealer organisation has to follow his duty to give the guarantee you have right on.
The problem is that most times you have to threat your dealer with a court case but why not if you are right.

Sorry if I made misstakes but to write this in English was quitte hard for me.
