CAR: A2 AUDI
REG: 52 PLATE
YEAR: 2002
MILAGE: 36950

I GAVE THIS CAR TO AUDI DOCKLANDS COZ IT HAD BROKEN DOWN.

DIAGNOSIS: 1).FAULTY STARTER MOTOR.(WIERD FOR A CAR OF THAT AGE).

2).SPLIT ANTI ROLL BAR (THOUGH I THOUGHT IT WAS THE SUSPENSION MOUNTINGS THAT WAS CLONKING).

3).HEAD LAMPS FAILED AT THE SAME TIME THE CAR BROKE DOWM.

4).BROKEN SUN-VISOR.

5).FAULTY ASH TRAY.

6). WHILE THEY WERE AT IT, I NOTICED THAT THE INDICATOR SHOWED THAT THE SERVICE WAS DUE IN 500 MILES TIME SO I DECIDED TO DO THE SERVICE AT THE SAME TIME.

THREE DAYS LATER AUDI CALLED AND SAID MY BRAKE PADS HAD GONE & IT WOULD COST ME £150 TO FIX, WASH WIPERS HAD GONE AND WOULD COST £35 TO FIX, AND BOTH THE HEAD LAMPS BULBS HAD GONE AND WOULD COST £12.50 PER SIDE TO FIX. I TOLD THEM NOT TO BOTHER WITH THE BRAKES & WIPERS AS I THOUGHT THE PRICE WAS JUST A RIP-OFF. BUT ASKED WHY THEY COULD NOT AT LEAST THROW IN THE BULBS FREE IN THE LIGHT OF THE £373 </u>FOR THE SERVICE CHARGE. IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR???

WHEN I GOT THE CAR BACK TWO WEEKS LATER. THE ASH TRAY, THE ANTI-ROLL BAR, SUN-VISOR AND STARTER MOTOR WERE FIXED (UNDER WARRANTEE). BUT TO MY SHOCKING [21] SUPRISE THE HEAD LAMP BULBS WERE NOT FIXED, MY HEAT SHEILD I.E.(FOR THE ENGINE BAY) WAS MISSING, MY RADIATOR HAD A DENT (1.5 INCHES), THE INTERIOR WAS NOT CLEANED, THE CAR WAS ONLY WASHED WHEN I GOT THERE.THE SUSPENSION STILL CLONKS, AUDI SAID THE HEAT SHIELD WAS NEVER THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

THE THING IS, ITEMS 1-5 WERE ALL COVERED AND DONE UNDER WARRANTEE. THE BIG QUESTION IS, WHERE DID MY MONEY GO (£373 FOR A SERVICE). THE PRICE DID NOT REFLECT ANY WORK DONE. I COULD DO BETTER.

IS THIS FAIR ON ME? WHAT SHOULD I DO? PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP ME.

A BACK STREET ROADSIDE MECHANIC COULDN'T DO ANY WORSE

£373 sounds typical of Audi, I was charged £300 for the most basic of services which would cost me no more than £100 to do myself (1 spark plug, new oil and a pollen filter). The rest of the money just goes on £90 an hour labour and the Audi service stamp. But I guess this is what you have to pay to drive an Audi, however extortionate it may seem.

In terms of the damage and missing heat shield, it's just your word against theirs unfortunately :(

Sorry to intrude, but in future it is worth phoning around all the dealers. Try Slough and St.Albans both around £250. Have you actually been quoted £373 and £300 respectively before the service?

My understanding of this is that it does not have to be a Audi dealer but in fact a VAG Group dealer.

My question to you all is would you think twice about a second hand car with a Seat/Skoda/VW stamp in the book as long the warranty remained unafffected?

I can honestly say i think it would put me off a little as it asks the question in your mind is the vendor economically astute or tight and refuses to pay for regular servicing.

Or hates Audi charging a premium for the same work? I think enough people have commented on this forum who would take ther Audi to another VAG member because, not only of cost, but because of service. I know my SEAT dealer is 1000 times better than my Audi dealer.

I'll be going there this afternoon to complain about the missing heat sheild and the clonking noise.

No can do! VAG are united accross Europe but NOT in the UK - eg: the local VW dealer will gladly do an MoT on your Audi and he can check the emissions on his VAG 1552/5051 computer but AUDI UK will not let him have the CD ROMs for servicing such as engine and gearbox info - so you have to pay extortionate amounts at your Audi dealer. Go to Europe and you can use Seat/VW/Skoda ....... Rip offf Britain!

There was a test case in consumer law many years ago (I was informed by a solicitor friend in the pub a few years ago) which challenged the specific question as to wether head light bulds could be exclude from warranty. The problem on that particular car was dto do with the labour charge as the bulbs were not readily accesible. The consumer won as it was decided by the courts that it was reasonable to expect a buld to last at least a year on a car and that normal use did not consitute wear and tear in the same way as tyre and brakes. A good law book such as Butterworths may help.

That explains much of the problem, I used to live about 300yds from these guys and only used them once, would never go near the place again and I know a few others with similar feelings, I found them expensive, arrogant and very poor in dealing with my vehicle - any damage was denied by them, any parts forgotten were 'not there in the first place' - I'd just recommend ringing around.

Mr Audi,
I do hope you are monitoring the website at the moment as this is the very reason why you are losing sales/credibility in the UK. ALL Audi forums (forI) express similar opinions.
You have some excellent dealers who care about customer care and after sales service. I know, I am lucky enough to have one. However many do not and these guys (and guyesses) are going to buy Hondas and Toyotas and stuff next time.
Mr Audi, Get out your big guns and remove the franchise from these cowboys if you value your marque.
Eventually, the product led excellence will dissipate as after sales ineptitude overcomes design flair.
You will lose market share - it may take a long time - but it will happen.
LOOK AFTER THE RINGS, MY PRECIOUS!
