Auto headlight conversion with coming home/ leaving home lights

Had a look for my instructions but could not find them. After a search on here I found @cheechy had posted his instructions......

Hope this answers your question.

This is on my 'To do' list - the non-Bluetooth version.

Ebay & Amazon list many options for the switch, some with iffy feedback. Are there any vendors that members can recommend?

California-dog.
I have bought over twenty from him without any issue.

Evening @Shoestring7,

This is the item I recently purchased to fit into Project 250. It is the Bluetooth version but you don’t have to use the Bluetooth function as the prices are quite similar anyway.

I have always used this seller and have purchased 4 over the years (1x non BT and 3 BT versions)

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Steve beat me to it. The link above is the same seller as the good Mr Birchall indicates.

Kind regards,

Tom

Thank-you.

Looks like I'll have to wait a few weeks for delivery, but I guess none of us are going far at the moment.

Sorry to revive this, but the seller advised in the latest posts does not ship to Italy, so, looking for someone that does, I got a little bit confused: is this article (which I take to be the same as this, with the cable's side merely being a LHD/RHD thing) the same as, say, this (which I take to be the exact model we're talking about in this thread), just with a worse looking selector? I would assume so, especially given the presence of an identical Bluetooth version - and the mention of an older version having a cumbersome control unit to shove in the dash, which I take to be this one, clearly a lot more different from those other units than they are from each other...

...and if so, does any of you know if the selector can be swapped, should one, for the sake of an example, have a newer VAG product in the family no one really cares for? 👀

There were three versions of the auto light switch. The first had a separate control box, the second was all combined but manual adjustments ( default settings work very well for most users ) and the third and current version a combined unit but adjustable via bluetooth.
The A2 has a different wiring connector to other Audis but is the same as some Golfs / Boras so there is no real interchangeability. Add to this that newer Audis have light and rain sensors on the windscreen and those cars switches do not have the light sensor lead that is on the switches suitable for the A2.

Oh, it took me a while to realize I wasn't clear enough: I meant just the physical selector that you rotate, not the whole assembly!

This right here.
Thanks for all the other info!

That switch ignoring the type of wiring connector on the rear is ONLY suitable for cars that were designed for auto lights and have inbuilt light sensors. You can not just plug this into any car and have auto lights.

Yes, I know - I mean specifically the component I highlighted in that image, not the entire switch - I just find that handle better looking than the one seen in the cheaper switches, so if I could get a cheaper switch and just swap handles with that hunk of sadness a newer VW I have access to I'd be thrilled.

It would probably save time if you told us the precise model of car you are wanting to fit this to, since it clearly isn't an A2.

I do want to fit it to an A2! The car that isn't an A2 is the one I'd nick the knob/dial/selector/[not the entire switch assembly] from to install it on the switch assembly I would purchase for the A2.

Allow me to illustrate my intentions.

If you now own an A2, it would be a good idea to update your profile.

That part is not really removable and is different in design.
But why not buy the auto headlight switch complete? It literally takes 10 minutes to fit and mega cheap

I was going to mention the minuscule imperfection in the switch you use here that irrationally irks me, but come think of it I wouldn't want to pass that irk onto actual owners XD

I notice some of these models have a built-in light sensor - do any of you have experience on how well those work?
