Autoexpress putting A2 down!

This weeks Autoexpress has a section along the lines of 50 worst motoring ideas.

Appears the A2 is number one, with a mention on "the windscreen wipers that rock the cars side-to-side when in use, and an engine compartment sealed so only mechanics can get in" (I'll try and get the text up on this post when I can).

Well if they read the manual you can see that the engine cover comes off easily, but then you don't need to because of the service flap. What is it with these motoring magazines? A bit of innovation and it gets knocked-what about the many plus points for the car? Makes me angry-lifting bonnets is old hat-the service flap is the new black!.

Steve - I've been a subscriber of Auto Express for a few years now, but from recent experience, and also having spoken with Richard Yarrow about the club, they have never been big fans of the A2...as demonstrated by your post!

I think the A2 gets a fair knocking from a few mags and not much of it is deserved. IMO the only criticism of the car that is deserved is the price as I would have loved Leather and other options, but just couldnt afford the cost of the new one.

As for the magazines in general, I have stopped subscribing to any of them now because it appears to me that most of thesee journos are now too far removed from the real living with cars, too concerned about bhp figures and handling on a circuit and also too 'paid for' with allegience brought by whomever is providing the best company cars.

The Autoexpress piece reads:
"Did you know the A2's windscreen wipers make the car rock from side to side when you switch them on? It's a bugbear for James Jackson from Norwich, Norfolk (don't know him - Runboy). And why did the firm choose to seal the bonnet shut, so only mechanics can get in?"

Article says it all-"mechanics"-why would your everyday owner want to get in when they don't have to-I open the bonnet on my Corolla to check oil and washer fluids.......

I think we all need to write to Autoexpress and put them straight as we all know you can remove the bonnet (Why would you want to) and the wiper only rocks the car if you have the old style one or you put it on at full speed for the new one... (none of which have bothered me as I like some others have had both) its about time they got into the real world as there are far worse cars than the A2...

Wiper problem never been an issue with me - I hardly ever use them constantly - quickest intermittent always seems to be OK. As for the bonnet being 'sealed shut' bunkum!! The service flap is an excellent idea, but I had reason to remove the bonnet last week - first time ever. I was a bit apprehensive, but undo the two bolts and it slides off easily. Biggest advantage is you don't bang your head on the propped open bonnet. BTW reason for removing it was a squeeling radiator fan - spray of WD40 and its fixed. I also checked the other fluid levels whilst under there.

Yesterday, I drove from London to Newcastle, and will be driving back again this afternoon. I applied Ombrello to my front and rear glass last week and having done that, I discovered yesterday that there is no need to ever use the windscreen wiper a full speed again!! I highly recommend the stuff - it's amazing, and am hoping it will rain on the journey today so that I can see it in action again.

London _ Newcstle - I do the trip quite often during footy season.

I applied the rainex to my front and rear and I found a bit of a nuisance on the front at low speeds as water didnt clear efectively and the wipers just made it messy. Is very cool at higher sppeds tho 50+ mph.

Sorry Mediacitizen, would have done if I'd known. I've actually been going there every week for the past 2 months, but I don't need to go there again in the near future now!...I'm now stuck in Northampton for the next month or so.
