Hi all, we've got a baby on the way (next week actually) and we are considering a diesel A2. What are peoples experiences? is there enough room in the boot for all the stuff that you need to hike around. Any info would be great thanks [23]

hey - us too!!

We bought an A2 1.4 sport about a month ago - we are expecting our first on the 21st of Dec - or thereabouts anyway!

We were also worried about the boot space. My missus had a new Mini cooper at the time and it was useless. We had already bought the pram and stuff ( a Teutonia stroller thingy) and I put it in the back of my car (a BMW 3-series) to take to the dealer to test it. I actually struggled to get it into the saloon boot of the BMW, but the A2 was fine - no problems at all. The way the teutonia folds meant that the A2 looked like it had been designed around it amazing. Also - we have a Britax 'cosy-tot' car seat which fits in front (we have had the airbag disabled) with no problems and fits in the back behind the passeneger seat without even moving the front seat forward (if you see what I mean) which is something I have to do with the BMW.
So all in - I would say it is of better "baby carr-ability" than a VW golf (which was the other car we looked at) and we are very happy with the car so far.

Good luck with whatever you buy and good luck with your new arrival

all the best

Graham

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the upcoming sprog arrival!

If you want ISOFIX, check the A2 has it (if buying 2nd hand)-I believe it was an option/is an option.

On top of Graham's comments I'd like to add a couple:
We find the A2 more than satisfactory for lugging around all the baby gear - despite having an excessively large pushchair. Indeed, it's not too bad at carting three adults plus baby plus a week's luggage around: quite a feat for a small car.
If you were to go for an A2 I'd suggest looking at the space-floor-box option* which has a convenient box that goes in baby's footwell in which you can keep sundries for journeys (wipes, nappies, bottle heater, playstation, sedatives etc.). The option comes with a rear cup holder which is great for holding bottles whilst they're being heating.

*if buying used can be obtained from VAGParts (with an A2OC members discount :)

Hope this helps...

Thanks for all the comments, I guess that with all this positive feedback I am going to have to take the plunge. Now its just a thing of finding a nice cheap one.

Re the capacity of A2s I presume that with a new baby the following might be helpful: I have put a large washing machine (new, in its box) into the back of the A2 with the seats folded, and it slide in with plenty to spare! I don't know where this 'there's no room for luggage' myth comes from as they are HUGE in comparison to most superminis (the A2 luggage space, not the baby).
My A2 has all the gizmo's like Stuarts space-floor-box and a seperate cover shelf that sits at the cill level in the very rear concealing the space where the spare wheel ought to be (mines previous owner forgot to take the no-cost option) It also has heated seats, dimming rear view mirror, full glass roof, 6 cd player (which means I cannot get a towbar....) and the real waste of time SAT NAV. Glad I bought it as a second user and the first guy took the hit.....
HOWEVER since I've had it I could have sold at least three to friends IF there was an automatic gearbox option. Why don't AUDI do a tiptronic for it as at the new price its mainly old men like me (not) that will be looking to buy new ones. And that's an 'automatic' market if ever there was one....

Richard,
Would be interested to know why you think the SAT NAV's a waste of time.
Cheers

So would I!!
To be honest it's my biggest regret, if I could find some spare cash (unlikely!), I'd trade in my A2 right now for the new 90 BHP TDI but get full colour sat nav with it.

- Also where do people find these high spec cars in the UK ???? (I've been looking for 2 - 3 Months and not found any yet ????)

Sorry can't help you there - being in the right place at the right time I suppose.

I read a couple of years ago some guy had downsized to an A2 and ordered it with every option on the list, came in at £24,000, lucky blighter.

As I wrote on another thread, over here there were 2 or 3 batches of high-spec A2´s made as demo cars for Audi which were sold this spring, I have one of those (would have been £24,438 according to Audi UK´s configurator) for £15,100 4 months old with 6000 km´s on it. There must be some of those demo cars in th UK as well....
As to Sat Nav, if you find a reasonably priced A2 then you could get a SatNavPlus-unit off eBay or a parts dealer (it is relatively painless to retrofit if you have an A2 with the Symphony head unit) and install it yourself.

Bye, Frido.
