Yesterday I had to fold the back seat to install some cover to protect the seats from this fellow:

Now the lock is stuck like this:

Some advice please? And I already tried banging on it.....

Hi,

try moving the release leaver as seen from the side of the seat in the opening forwards. The leaver pivots at the top and should move forwards and disappear into the top. This should release the handle and cause it to drop downwards. If it doesn't or you can't see the leaver at all then that's your problem, something has gone wrong with the mechanism.

Putting the seat backwards into the upright position normally causes the leaver to be pushed and the handle to drop engaging the pin. Once dropped you can pull the handle up to withdraw the pin and allow the seat to go back into position.

See attached pictures.

regards

Andrew

First off, lower the other rear seat; wriggle room for the stuck seat.
If you open the boot you can have an arm either side of the c-pillar (standing outside the car), one hand pulling the "lock" as you've called it and the other pushing/pulling the stuck seat via the headrest* and that should free it easily.

* gives you leverage, thus doesn't need much force to budge.

I found, lower the other seat, go in through the lowered seat side door, and push against the inside of the jammed seat, whilst lifting the lever... and with all your body weight against the jammed seat, it should push the seat over slightly for correct alignment for release...

I hope you can make sense of my explanation.. John.

Mine was a bit awkward so i sprayed some WD40 into where the metal plunger goes up and down and its made it a lot easier.

Thnx guys. With your advice I managed to get it down. I sprayed a bit wd40 on it also. Seems fine now.

I've got this exact same problem. it was fine before i raised the seats to put it in to MiniVan mode. Now it seams the mech is out of alignment by a few mill and wont engage. I'll try the WD40 route myself.

Make sure that both of the main locking pins underneath are both in the same position.

If they look different then put your weight on the back of the folded seat and pull the release handle quite firmly, that should set them correctly,
The seat should then go back in place then, hopefully, but it is worth a try.
