BASIC AUDI CHORUS/Speakers

Hi

I'll apologise now if this has already been covered, having bought recently an A2 1.4 SE W reg, my stereo is only cassette (one knob for volume, on/off), and despite looking through manual does not seem to have a cd option for a multichanger, and my A2 also only has front not rear speakers desite being SE model (something to check when buying next time). My question really is what is the best unit to go for? just to listen to cd's really, and what speakers for rear doors. I can look all day in halfords but not knowing sizes and things haven't a clue. Not wanting to spend a fortune but also don't want to go cheap either, Audi quoted me £840! any advice would be grateful.

I had exactly the same poor stereo when I got my A2 recently. As part of the deal with the dealer I got them to fit an aftermarket stereo. I then switched this to my old car when I swopped in my old Alpine sat nav. Any aftermarket stereo will need a CanBus(?) adapter (as much as £100) if you want it to switch off/on with the Audi electronics / ignition. Speaker holders are relatively shallow so I ended up with some slimline yellow 40W Pioneers. I have some photos in a separate post titled 'Alpine Sat Nav & CD Changer'. HTH!

Hi Swede,

My first A2, a 2001 MY SE spec only came with front speakers and I had to retro-fit rears.

They're not too pricey from memory (about £60 a pair) for the genuine Audi woofers and I have a pair of tweeters here you can have for £20. The advantage with these is that they're matched to the cars accoustics and they don't need adapter rings.

The biggest ball-ache is getting the wiring back from the rear doors to the front - you have to use lots of lube and be patient! The trick is to get them through the rubber corrugated boots into the B pillar - from there on in, it's a doddle.

The genuine Audi (actually Blaupunkt) amp to drive the rears is £34 from a dealer - hardly blows the bank!

As has been said before, any aftermarket stereo will do, but you'll need a fascia adapter for any non-Audi unit.

Possibly your best bet would be to pick up an iPod adapter for £100 and use that instead of faffing about with those antiquated silver cd thingys! Only 74 minutes on something that size? Pah!

Seriously, if you are ever Manchester-way and want to have a look at my installation or just chat A2, then no problems, give me a shout.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks MPG/Skipton

Skipton an ipod would be cheaper in regards to initial setup over a cd unit, but how can this be connected to my chorus unit? Would be interested in those tweeters and will get in touch with Audi if there only around £60 a pair, I live nearby so will take you up on offer an look at your A2 setup many thanks again!::)

My very un-sophisticated answer to this problem was to spend 2 quid in Tescos on a thingy that you put into the cassette deck and plug in to the iPod. It works a treat and only 2 quid, it'll do me but no doubt technophobes will scoff.

Your right!

The Artist spends all that money on studio equipment for the perfect Acoustic sound and we mess it all up with a £2 cassette adaptor.:D

At least spend £100 on a Dension link kit or something, i think their is a fitting guide on the forums somewhere.

2 Quid i was robbed i payed £4.99 for mine comes in handy when my daughters wanna put there music on
i have the Multichanger they got the philips Mp3 Player ......

For those of you that aren't total audiophiles it looks like the EC will be relaxing laws on radio transmissions. This means the FM transmission units for the Ipods etc will be available. So, no wires, just tune in the radio to your mp3 player. Sweet!

But youl will never have the quality as with use of an Wire-adapter. But if x% less quality than good radiosound is enough, then.. ok.
