Quick question guys, does the foot rest have a slight curve or has the postie bent mine?

Steve,

The footrest should be flat. It does seem that your package has been mishandled during transit.

Is there any other damage or is it just the bend that’s the problem.

Please do try to flatten it out. As much as I can request a refund for this from Hermes, I don’t have any spares to send to you unfortunately.

I do hope you can resolve this easily. Worst case might be to remove the tape and bolt it down if you cannot get it flat enough.

Apologies for you having to deal with this on your purchase.

Kind regards,

Tom

Tom please don’t worry it’s not a problem and you don’t have to apologise or ask for a refund it was a query rather than a complaint.
I’m sure it will flatten down absolutely fine once in place

Hi tom it arrived this afternoon yes cheers alex
Evening Alex,

That is fantastic news indeed. I was hoping they found it but wasn’t very confident they would after chatting to the call centre.

Don’t forget pictures once fitted.

Kind regards,

Tom

Evening all,

List in post #360 just updated:

I am happy to announce that this venture has now made it to the very end, my work here is pretty much done!

Just 1 remaining to be collected (@WindyMiller), I have 4 that I'm delivering to @Proghound tomorrow.

I'm only down £1.30 but hopefully @ecurb logs in to see the multiple PMs along with the mentions in this thread to pay up soon enough.

Seeing pictures of the footrests in your A2s puts a smile on my face and makes the long evenings sending PMs (3 minute wait in-between each one) all so worth it.

Kind regards,

Tom

Yes that 3 min wait is a pain to say the least.
Mods - die air need to be so long or there at all ? I guess it’s there to prevent someone spamming members but it reality it can be a right pain in the back side

I commonly get a number of pm’s that I need to reply too. The 3 min wait just adds extra time into the process. Particularly when the same reply is to be sent to multiple PM as it’s a copy paint send job which should take seconds but ends up taking 3 mins per pm to be sent

@Darren C @murdo is that something we can control in the forum software or maybe a @ben thing?

Much as I was taken by audifan blue LED I could not face the wiring (getting access to a feed). So I decided on this:

A2 Footrest with inserts.jpg

First I put some plastic insulation tape under the letters. I mixed some slow setting epoxy and then added a few drops of black wood stain. Using a match end I scooped up some of the mix and dropped it into the letters A2. It then tends to level out with a bit of assistance with another match. Any overflow was cleaned up with a cotton bud or match end soaked in meths. Needs patience.

I like the way it has come out rather shiny like piano black. Like the inserts, it has a slightly raised domed profile.

If I did it again I would sharpen a match into more of a point (and then soaked in meths) so I could get into corners better. But from the driver's position it looks fine.

I've problems fixing! I cleaned the footrest on the A2 with meths and allowed to dry for at least 10 mins. Removed the red film, positioned and pressed down all over the metal part (not the inserts). It popped off starting in the middle section. There is hardly a mark on the stick surface. Placing it on a flat surface shows no warp.

I only want to use it if there is no risk of it coming off whilst driving. I known the sticky tape takes a day or so to harden but how to keep it under pressure. Any hints anyone?

Otherwise I guess it is screwing down but getting access at the top may be difficult. Also, whilst I can tell that there is nothing under the A2 footrest at the top I don't know if there is anything important at the bottom.

Nothing important underneath, just a metal version of what’s on top. Mine didn’t stick very well as first but now seems to be solid.

You could always assemble it out of the car with weight pressing down on it. The plastic footrest is only held in by one Torx screw, behind the clutch pedal. You slide it up a bit and then pull the kick panel off with fingers underneath the bottom. The two pieces then separate. (Beware, it's a bit of a beggar getting the screw back in on reassembly, you have get the holes in the footrest and the metal underneath lined up but that clutch either gets right in the way or leaves you with only one hand available).

You could use something like a piece of wood of hard plastic and wedge it between the foot rest and bring the driver seat up against it. Not enough to damage the seat covering but enough to hold the foot rest to enable the tape to stick. Not checked the length but the emergency triangle / first aid kit in the boot may be suitable.

Thanks for the ideas guys. Might take the footrest off once I've seen the location of the torx bolt. I can then clamp it. Just need the rain to stop....

BTW the illumination wiring only requires the ashtray removal to connect the wiring to the ash tray lighting then the cable run out the back of the dash and down to the foot rest.

I had the same ‘panic’ after mine didn’t appear to stick at all when I pressed it to the footrest...I just sat in the car with my foot flat against the footrest for 10/15 mins and it stuck solid! Plus l got 15 mins peace from the kids lol

Hi Alan_uk,
It could well be a temperature thing as most of these glued tapes are temperature sensitive for best bond.
