Best Number Plates

Taken the plunge today and bought an A2 reg. As I will need to get plates made up when the V750 arrives, are there any opinions on the best LEGAL plates available and whether thet look better with a mounting plate/surround?

Thanks:)

dubmeister ones are the best ones ive seen. i will be getting a set of their LEGAL pressed metal plates in the new year.

i recently bought a set from demontweeks to smarten up my Porsche in case i need to sell. You can custom design the plates to suit including incorporating the audi logo.

Fully agree with that, Rob - I had some Dubmeisters made up in June - preferred to do it through a local distributor rather than online, but quality and service was excellent.

Another vote for Dubmeister - had them for a few years now, after a member from Llandudno introduced me to them in 2003.

They do have local outlets serving most places, so no need to send off your documents, just take 'em with you.

Cheers

i can recommend the pressed alloy plates from euro plates--i got mine from ebay.although my ones are not legal(no BS stamp)but legal text. i fitted them using the plastic surrounds again from ebay and they look fantastic and never had a problem with mot(although Daren did at Audi!)
surprising how many people ask "why have you got a foreign reg car?" i think they really suit the car--Daren refitted his as soon as he got home another bonus of using the plastic frames --plate changes are easy.
cheers mike

You shouldn't need to send off registration docs, i didn't, i think the Demon site cross checks with DVLA to ensure all is legal.

Well the consensus of opinion points frimly to Dubmeister, but of course Sod's Law dictates, that there is not a dealer within 50 miles of me. However I contacted them and contrary to what is posted on their website they will accept e-mailed V750 & proof of ID!

Now I just have to decide, do I make the sensible choice of having the GB EU flag option (we drive abroad a lot!!) or have it plain? Personally I think that plain looks so much better on an A2 plate and I can always put a small magnetic GB sticker on the back. What do others think??

You'll struggle with a magnetic sticker - the plates are pressed aluminium!

It's your call - if you have a look through the gallery, you'll see photos of Tank with the Dubmeister plates and the GB side strip - see what you think.

Cheers,

Mike

and la polizia probably won't accept it.

really, if you want to do the EU route, so no GB necessary, then get it done properly.

Hi Bret

I reckon you are probably right although the FCO stipulate that you only need the GB/EU plate on the rear. However having been pulled over so many times (spot checks) I know, particularly in Italy, there is a variety of interpretations of motoring laws especially with the Caribiniere ( the pretty boys with the boots, guns, sunglasses and obligatory fag hanging out the corner of their mouth:cool:), where it just pays to be polite and not argue - an aquaintance did - big mistake - for a basic motoring offence he ended up with his licence confiscated and hire car impounded for 3 months - that meant 3 months of hire car charges, fine and storage charges - the whole lot cost him €10,000 +

that really makes me look forward to driving in Italy next summer..... bad enough getting pulled for speeding and parking in Hungary this summer....

Adrian, driving in Italy is fun - the guy I mentioned was dumb he argued a pointless case, should have just said i am guilty and paid a small fine.

So by the rationale that anyone who owns an A2 cannot possibly be dumb - no problema:cool:

Thought I would give some feedback having recieved my Dubmeister plates today and the previous glowing reports on quality and service.

The quality of the plates looks first class, although time will tell how they will perform. However a minor negative is the service. Took them 10 days to get the plates to me after advising next day service and being chased 3 times. Furthermore one of the plates had an error on it, which they have acknowledged and say they will replace. The quality of the plates is the important issue but in case anyone is in a hurry they should check first that they can achieve a 24hr turnaround.
