Whats the best source of a workshop manual and VCDS options? Seen USB dongles on FB / EBay , are these genuine or copies ? I think I need to have the right instructions and also tools needed tp work on my car.

Download the free Lite version of VCDS from the Ross-Tech website, install on any Windows laptop, XP to 10/11. Buy a KKL lead from Ebay. That'll get you started. Maybe later spend $99, getting it licensed, for increased functionality.
You can buy time on the Audi Erwin website, costs 7.50 euros for one hour. And you can download a lot of .pdfs in an hour.
Only download from Ross-Tech. Any other source is a clone at best a virus/ransom scam at worst.
Mac.

How did you manage to get on to Erwin? It said it wasn't available in the UK to me?

Would this be an OK KKL lead?

EVGATSAUTO 150CM OBD2 USB Cable Scanner, Car OBD2 409.1 USB Cable Scan Tool (Blue) https://amzn.eu/d/hFIGag6

In the tech description it does say "Please note that this product cannot be installed and run on for Windows 10." but I'm assuming that's just the software that come with the lead. If using VCDS then that's not an issue?

The thing to be careful of is the driver for the lead. I don't think official drivers are available for 10/11.
It's also vital to install the driver before plugging the lead in. If you ignore this, a standard USB driver will be allocated, and this will not work, and will need to be uninstalled, before starting again.
I can't say if a particular lead is OK, most are. The driver is a serial to usb converter, and popular with Arduino fans.
A bit more expensive, but the lead from Gendan UK, has a driver download on the Gendan site. The driver may well work with other leads. I have an ebay lead, and a Gendan one, both work.
