best wheel for alloy protection

Can anyone recommend a good tyre for the 17" sport alloys which gives a good deal of protection from kerbing, but still looks decent?

Also - what is the tyre of choice on the forum for the 17" sport alloys?

Cheers,

Chris.

i have conti's on front and they are better than the pirellis that came with it originally.

Goodyear Eagle F1s are a good tyre for protection, as well as all round performance, although they are now discontinued!

Toyo PROXES T1-R and T1-S are also good and are cheaper too.

The best way to get excellent rim protection though for 17" wheels is to step up to a 215-section tyre, but keep the aspect ratio the same at 40%.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks for the heads up on that - think I will go for the T1-S even though the R is 20 notes cheaper for a set of 4 (I think new lines are due in) as the S just looks better . . .

update!

Just a wee update on this - as the car I have just bought (after a loooong search) needed a couple of new tyres to get through its mot - the dealer replaced the ones that were on there already to keep as a set - they were:

Federal SS 595 - 215/40/17

They look great, have a decent lip to protect your rims (which give the wheels a 'wider' stance) - plus only cost £50 a tyre - fitted and balanced (huge change from my old TT's 18" rubber!), definately worth a look next time you need to change your tyres though.

Cheers,
