I'd like to thank Ian (Bargepower) and by extension everyone else on the forum for their input to this useful forum.

Ian kindly paid me a visit to run a VCDS scan and identified the cause of an annoying misfire that was making the BBY a bit of a pain to drive anywhere. Ian sorted it within minutes and saved me much grief and a few quid too! A great chap and incredibly helpful, many thanks again.

As many members have stated the camaraderie and quality of info on this forum is second to none and I'm very grateful for this.

Best wishes

Yes, I’m lucky enough to live 3 minutes walk from Steve B and I’m sure he would help me out if needed, just as I would him, except he definately knows more than me about A2’s.
I’m a member of another small forum for BMW and we have the same sort of help on there, except most of the members have newer cars that don’t need much work.

I also belong to various BMW forums, but I always have older bmw's as per my signature (my current one is a 56 plate 525d Touring Msport with remapping to 235 BHP)

My car two cars ago was an E61 525i M sport with the 3 litre N53 engine. It was an 07 plate, one of the first LCi’s and I got it at 3 years old and 22k miles. It was a lovely car made special by the panoramic roof, I kept it for three years, which is a long time for me.
I’ve had my current car for 15 months now and will be due a change soon, I do fancy a new A7.

I tend to keep my cars until they are no longer viable. My 530d touring I kept until it needed welding doing and was uneconomical to repair. I did all the servicing, suspension rebuilds, engine work myself. It had 248,000 when I had to let it go.

If you hang on to your cars until they are no longer viable then you should be able to hang on to your A2 for a LONG time.

They just keep going and since they have very few components that can rust you may well have it for the rest of your life!!!

I am very fickle and I change my cars as soon as I have sorted them out. But I have had an A2 since 2001 (several different ones but there has always been at least two A2s outside our house.)

I envy people who can hang on to the same car for a long time, it makes so much sense, but I have tried and failed many times.
I always seem to find a "keeper" then spend thousands improving it, then find that once they are sorted I miss doing the improvements!

Have fun

Steve B

I have to also pitch in and Say that Ian (Bargepower) was a top bloke and collected and brought back a parcel shelf for me from another member.
I went to visit him to collect and had a nice chat with him at the same time.

It's people like this that make this forum one of the most useful and helpful i've every used.

What turned out to be the misfire as I have the same on mine but still can't find it New Genuine coils and plugs on and still running crap!

Is it a BBY engine too? The fault on mine was strange in that it only began misfiring when the temperature hit 90 degrees C on the mark. It ran smoothly when cold. Coils and leads had been replaced about seven months ago by previous owner.

I went through the quick fixes on the forum within my limited capabilities:

- Earthing strap behind the passenger headlight cleaned
- Ran injector cleaner and high octane fuel for a couple of tanks
- replaced coolant temp sensor following non vcds diagnostics.

Ian ran vcds which picked up a misfire on cylinder two and subsequently swapped over coils for cylinders two and three to assess if the vcds error code changed. This sorted the problem instantly and no more error codes showed following this.

Apparently the leads may not have been plugged in properly but can't be sure. I'm just glad it's resolved the issue!
