Bit iffy?

Well I have picked up my A2 Lovely car but I am now uncertain as to what to do. When we bought the car from avavilablecars.com it was advertised as having Climate Control. My husband noticed that the centre concel was not fitted. This was not a problem as the salesman said that it had air con and you turned it of with the econ button. On getting the car home reading the lit. I find the econ button is to turn an aux heater off. So I presume we do not have a car with Air con? We have complained and await a reply will let you know. Trouble is we like the car so much?

Any help

Thanks

Usually the ECON button switches off the aux heater but also switches off the airco cooler.
What do you mean when you say the centre concel (??) is not fitted ?

Can you post a picture from the climate panel ??

No climate control facilities, just normal hot/cold dials. Was under impression that when turning to cold, air con would be used. If you have a 1.4TDI do you have air con on yours? Thanks.

If you have a round dial (knob) for selecting the temperature, you don't have climate control. Climate control is a fully automatic, digital system that gives an LCD readout of the temp, fan speed etc.
You may have manual air con though??

If you have got CC, it will look like the unit below the sat-nav in these pics. http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/uk32.htm

Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.

Joyce, just to put your mind at ease, "Hovis" does have air con.
There are 2 systems in the A2, the hot/cold rotary dials are the standard system and the climate control system, as described above, is now an optional extra even though it was standard on the earlier, circa 2001 SE models.
On your system there is an ECON button between the air recirculation button and the heated rear window button. If you press the ECON button it will show a green light, normally, this confirms that the air con compressor is switched off. When the outside temperature is below +5 degrees C it does also switch off the auxillary heater on the TDi.

Hope this helps,
Shaf

Thanks for that. Is this a definate?

I assume the air will be colder than the outside temperature in the summer. I have read the manual but seem to be a bit hazy on this. Are we saying all A2s have air con I thought it was an opp extra?

Rang the Audi dealer who last serviced the car and they were a little hazy as well. they could not give me an answer other than take it to an Audi dealer to let them look? will have to get there when I can!

Any one else have any ideas?

I am really not sure about this. I am pretty sure the choices are:- no air conditioning or climate control with no middle ground. Certainly when I bought mine (Sept 03) this was the impression I was given. Look at the spec sheet on the Audi website, it would shout air conditioning if it had it. The manual is also reasonably clear that it doesn't have it.

Take the bonnet off (open the service flap and twist the two knobs, then lift the bonnet off). Have a look for air conditioning bits:- a compressor driven by a belt from the engine with silvery pipes coming off it. The pipes should be connected to a small radiator somewhere, and should also disappear into the box where the heater fan is, behind the engine. Not to be confused with the turbo pipes and the intercooler

My conclusion is that your car DOES NOT have air conditioning since it does not have climate control

Audi dealers hate A2s because they don't make any money on them. Which means they are vague about the specs. Certainly my one did not have a clue.

Ask the dealer to show you the A/C pipes!

The dealer now accepts that a mistake has been made. they will try to source another A2. If not what should I ask for? If no money back what can they give me for the car I have now, to make it better.

To fit climate would be a huge job so request a replacement A2, possibly use of the one you have now if a new one is to take ages coming (or a loan car) and maybe a few extras on a new A2, a full tank of fuel and a few services etc.

Start negotiating high and meet in the middle!

Try and get an A2 with climate control. Even if you don't think you'll use it much, it will make the car a lot easier to sell on when the time comes.
Plus try for the obvious mud flaps, interior mats etc as way of compensation.

Go for a free service, the marginal cost to them is peanuts, and it's all in 2 years time anyway. They will be happy to get you out of the door. You can try the "do you do this to people who by A8s too?" line or the "I'm gonna have a good laugh with my friends about how the premium Audi brand doesn't know its A from its E". That certainly gets them hot under the collar. Especially if it's a busy Saturday and they have lots of execu-types browsing A4 cabrios!

If the price was good for a car without Air con then go for the Sat nav however I think air con is worth every penny of the option price especially when you come to sell

Thanks

Phil

The dealer has now sorced another A2 it is newer and SE speck?
What has the SE got that the normal 1.4 tdi has not? They will be asking me to pay more which i of course will not want to do. We will see. The othet option is give mine back and ask for some money nack for all the hassle! Then buy from else where!

I think the SE has leather gear knob and steering wheel, 16inch alloys, false boot floor, CD player, illuminated vanity mirrors, and a higher level of cloth trim.

There may be other differences but I dont think any A2's have CC as standard

Phil

Just been on to Audi dealer to ask how much the opp for CC is. He did say that at just now you can get it free with a new car?

Doing a deal, CC and metallic paint for about £400 all in. Bargain - about £1000 off. Deal was supposed to end 31 March but maybe they're continuing it....

Well Hovis is going back on Monday as it has not got Climate. Thats the bad news. The good news is there is a Hovis 2 on our drive to replace the one thats past its sell by date.
This time 1.4tdi se 2002 19000miles with Climate, thanks JohnW hope you get your next car sorted.
