Ok, now that the donor car is in my ownership I can update on the big plans for the car.

Within a couple of months Black Beauty will be a 1.6 turbo FSI with a 6 speed box.

Clive Dalling did all the grafting on this and made a small turbo (1.4 tfsi) A2 FSI. The car has been running for about 2 years now and the concept has worked. It was an ongoing project for him and so needs finishing to make it pretty.

The base vehicle for the work is more than a little bit rough though and hasn’t seen an MOT since 2017 so the turbo gear and 6 speed box will be transferred into my FSI.

The car is estimated to be running around 160bhp in its current form. Clive also very kindly included a larger K03 turbo and stand alone ECU to push the power up to around 200hp. I personally think that will be pushing the FSI engine a bit too far but I’ll be very happy if I can get a reliable 150-160hp in my car.

This work is beyond me and so the work will be trusted to the local mechanic I use.

As long as it passes the emissions and the catalytic converter is still in place then it will be fine.

Now insurance, that may be a different matter.

Ah, you seem to have a very human car inspection system.
I would suspect this would not be possible in Sweden.
Hmm. But on the other hand, they are not allowed to take the hood of so... perhaps they would never find out!

It’s worth reading about the lupo gti turbo projects as there are a few and the engine is very similar. It’s a lot of work really impressed you are taking this on. Is this on the standard ecu with the smaller turbo? Does it not go crazy with all the extra air?

Or crazy idea run it from a TFSI map from it’s bigger 2.0TFSI brother.

From what I can see Edward there’s no Piggyback ECU in there. I’m not brave enough to take it on myself, I’m giving the 2 complete cars to my local mechanic to do the work. I don’t think I would have ever attempted one from scratch, but buying one that is already running is a different kettle of fish.

Hats off to your mechanic! Sounds like you have a great one there.
