Blue Storm TDI Project

Blue 75Tdi colour storm project
I messaged the seller about this car, there is some negotiation possible on price. It has failed the MOT and has some other problems, if it was a little closer I may have bought it as I do think its worth saving.

I managed to negotiate a deal on this car, and it has great potential, main problems are rear head lining has come adrift and the heater blower has stopped , it may be a wiring fault , if I’m lucky, some mechanical repairs nothing to difficult though, wheel bearing , d, shaft gaiter, door release, fuel cap switch, some driving lights, paint and body excellent, will come back a treat, not sure what the colour is but I call it a Everton blue, and the reg number oddly enough is a nod to the great William Ralph Dean, also known as “Dixie Dean “ DC03DXD, if you never heard of him google him.

Congratulations on your new car!
The colour is Sprint blue pearl effect LZ5F

Headliner and other cosmetic issues would be the least of my concerns tbh. Hopefully it’s the heater resister. I take it you are doing all the work yourself?

Personally get it mechanically sorted and get it through the MOT.
Good luck

This is my 4th a2 and 3rd tdi, yes mechanicals first to get it back in business, and then the body and cosmetics, absolutely love the blue pearl paint, I’ll put some snaps up when I’ve done some work on the paint,
Cheers Ras

Really glad to hear you struck a deal.
I could see from the pictures it was worth saving and too good to break.

Really looking forward to seeing a few pics as you progress.

I will be doing all the repairs, everything on the MOT failure is doable by myself, my concern was the bodywork, I got it home Sat 26/ and spent a good few hours just getting the rear end stripped and cleaned, the number plate was stuck on with some sort of decorators caulk or something, but now ready to fit my A2oc plate holder and badge, oddly it has 14” steel rims, but I’ve got some wheels to go on after they get refurbed, can’t wait to get some pictures up ,
Mileage is 161k lots of history, cambelt kit fitted at 55k (Audi ) then again at 103k so I’m not to concerned about belt change for now, thanks for the interest Ras, 👍

Number plates that look or sound good are always a bonus.
You got both with yours.

So today I fitted my A2oc number plate holder, I’ve put the old plate back but a new one is on order, next job was the drivers door not opening from inside, stripped off the door panel, only to find the inner aluminum cover had been bent out of shape up towards the door handle corner, so winder mech off, speaker, removed the panel and straightened it out, the door release cable had not been clipped in properly, refitted and was opening from within, it was a bit of a yank opening it from the outside, so I adjusted the striker position and all is good again, the central locking wasn’t working b4 so a change of batteries and a recode and that to is opening and closing on the button, next jobs will be, front end body and paint restoration, with a replacement slatted grille, and then sort out the blower motor or the blower control module or both, not looking forward to that one, symptoms are no blower, and blower control switch going to full and then dropping down again to zero, any advice on this would be good is it the blower or module. ? onward and upward.

Nice progress! Will be the blower motor that's at fault, really not a bad job to do. If you remove the sill trim to be able to remove the glovebox make sure to then refit the sill trim before laying on the sill as this will save 2 days discomfort. AC cars are much more sensitive with the blower motor resistance than one without. Replaced units can be had for peanuts and fitting to cars like the A1 and polo ect

Howey, Yes you were right it was the blower motor stuck, I managed to remove the glovebox easily, and then the four lower casing screws, I then pulled apart the lower half of the casing to expose the fan, I gave it a twirl and after what I thought was some slight resistance it was spinning quite easily, not free spinning but turning without resistance, so I thought I’ll just hook up the battery and try it, whereupon it turned , it was on the minimum and was a bit hesitant to up speed but after a few times up and down the scales it was fine, aircon not freezing but working, probably a re-gas, and although the engine wasn’t up to temperature I could feel it getting warmer when the aircon was switched of, how long it will last is anyone’s guess but we live in hope.
All seats except the drivers have been removed which made the blower fan a bit easier, tonight I fitted my recently purchased slatted grill courtesy of Fallen, looks great too, the grill release catch was not retracting fully so the flap was not opening , but it was a easy fix, I just elongated the catch screw holes and moved the catch back a little further, job done, tommorow I will refit the glove box, I had to repair the lid the springs were rattling around inside, and the release handle had come adrift, all done now Time for bed methinks.

So tonight the glovebox I refitted, it was pretty straightforward, however the end cover the one that goes next to the lid I had to use the hot wax glue gun to reaffix it back, I need two cup holders and the Concert radio is very shabby, I also need a gear knob the leather is torn, I was having a look through my bits and bobs spares, and I found a new set of disc pads, a new cabin filter now fitted, a new air filter, a oil filter as well, also found a brand new pair of number plate lights (led) I think they were ordered for my TT but I think I can make them fit , we will see, drop links and anti roll bar rubbers and front wheel bearing have all arrived, oh and I also found two rear brake cylinders still in there boxes, I will probably buy new rear shoes and front grooved discs, I put them on my last one and they made a difference, so busy weekend ahead, but I will probably get the inside deep cleaned as best i can while it’s nice and warm and sunny, so that it dries out properly, if anyone has any of those bits I mentioned please let me know, Onward and Upward

I thought being an Evertonian on the forum was rarer than a Blue Storm….. that now makes two Evertonians with Blue Storms on the forum (last year I had two)😂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🍺😍
