BlueMotion Gearbox (JDD) fitted into 1.4 TDI AMF engine

Thought I’d update this now my car is actually moving under its own steam, couple of points:

Dogbone mount
Many in here have used spacers to fit the mount. In my case, I think I’ll need to modify (angle grind off) a boss on the gearbox as well as spacers. As a temporary measure, I’m just using extra thick spacers (15mm rear, 10mm front). This angles the mount enough that the dogbone itself has about 3-5mm clearance to the box.

Shift linkage
In my case I didn’t use the shift linkage that came with the JDD. Instead, I used a brand new mech from VW. Why? Well in trying to fix my old box, I bought a new mech. I didn’t want to waste it so fitted it to the new box.

Now I’m not sure if this was what caused a little clearance issue, but thought it worth mentioning before I carry on.

Engaging 2nd was very tough, and then coming back out of it was even harder. As it turns out, the end of the Bowden cable (adjustable bit on the ball joint) was clashing with the gearbox mount bracket ever so slightly. A bit of a tickle with the angle grinder and it’s now shifting ever so smoothly!

I hope that helps anyone hoping to do this mod going forward!

Again, for reference, my box came out of a Fabia with approx 130,000 miles. The oil that came out of it was super clean and it shifts perfectly, so they’re obviously a better designed unit over all.

Can anyone confirm whether the JDD box has a speedo drive in the gearbox so that it can be fitted to an early car?

The jdd I recently fitted had a Speedo drive hole that was blanked off with a plastic nut type fitting. I have another jdd in the garage can send a photo in a bit.

Yes my JDD as the speedo drive as needed for 51 plate A2

I can’t remember if it had a blanking plug and I needed to fit the speedo sensor from the A2 gearbox or if the sensor was already fitted to the jdd box as it was two years ago when I fitted it

Thank you for the reply guys. Very helpful

On the top mount of the gearbox (part that needs the corner cutting) do any of those bolts need spacers or once cut does it simply bolt same as on original box?

From memory I had to make a spacer almost a thick washer. Remember having to turn a piece of ally bar when I was fitting the jdd
Then latter on when I got to the dog bone mount another spacer or two

Hi Paul

Hope to get mine fitted soon, am I correct in that if you place the top gearbox mount on the box and tighten the rear most bolt this will leave an air gap between the box and the mounting holes of the front two bolts hence why you need the spacers to enable the front two bolts to be tightened and mount to remain square to the box?

Many thanks

Hi Paul

Did you use the jdd tower and simply attach the A2 selectors to the jdd tower?
Having just looked that seems possible so long as the bushes from the pivot arm are also swapped as the plastic pivot arm for the jdd has a thicker diameter secured with a white plastic clip and has no bushes. whereas the A2 has a metal pivot with a slimmer diameter and bushes which is secured with a metal clip does that sound about right?

Many thanks

This is what I've done in the past on an AMF, worked fine.
