BlueMotion Gearbox (JDD) fitted into 1.4 TDI AMF engine

So how does the 3L box compare to the standard 75TDi gearset then? Interesting to compare if you consider the 3L has longer gearing as well as less power/torque? Ok it's got even less weight to lug around, but still!

The 1.4Tdi ratios (EEA, GPK & EWQ) are (1.2 in brackets) 3.78 (3.45), 2.12 (1.95), 1.30 (1.18), 0.97 (0.81) and 0.76 (0.64) with a final drive ratio of 3.39:1 (3.33:1).

To quote from here:

http://www.audiworld.com/news/01/A2TDI/.shtml

'The 1.2-litre TDI's peak torque of 140 Nm is produced at between 1800 and 2400 rpm. Almost 80 percent of the maximum propulsive power is available at just above idle speed, from 1300 rpm upwards - an excellent basis for high agility and low fuel consumption.'

But the 1.4tdi will win out on acceleration!

So you could conceive that a remapped TDi with a JDD gearbox will drive and perform fairly similarly then to the 1.2TDi, given that the former is about 250kg heavier?

Remember that that are two 1.2Tdi models, 3L and 3.2L. The former weighs 855kg, the latter 930kg and a 1.4tdi 1020kg. Mine is a 3.2L; there are very, very few true 3Ls (I've never seen one for sale). So the difference in weight is only 90kg. Given the similar gearing, a 3.2L is 45kw/930kg = 0.048 and a 1.4tdi 55kw/1020kg = 0.054, so the 1.4tdi has a better power to weight ratio. So yes, at the very least, considering other differences such as tyre width, streamlining and turbo. You'll never match the consumption though!

I was quoting unladen weight from the owners manual. You trust the DVLA!

RAB

Actually, with all those mods, it might well be 1200kg! My estimation of the DVLA has just gone up!

RAB

What are the differences between 3L and 3.2L? I can think of climate and twin rear seats (maybe rear fals floor), is there anything else? Oops, pas as well.

3L - no options at all, not even floor mats(!) apart from paint. Did have DIS though as standard - to help economy.

3.2L - all options except alarm, opensky, towbar, navigation, leather, 3 rear seats, heated front seats, lumbar support, rear power windows, cruise, multibox, Bose & multichanger.

RAB

on my V5 it says my TDi is 1200 KG?

The DVLA figure includes the weight of the options (OSS, Climate, etc) for your particular vehicle, whereas the other figure is the base weight.

...3.2L - all options except alarm, opensky, towbar, navigation, leather, 3 rear seats, heated front seats, lumbar support, rear power windows, cruise, multibox, Bose & multichanger.
...

The only one of those I can't live without is the OpenSky. If it hadn't been for that I'd have probably gone down the import route instead of getting a 1.4.

Going back to the original topic, if the EuroTuning 6-speed had not been an option, I think the JDD would have been my choice. I'd avoided the longer-5th mod due to the gap between 5th and 6th, but spreading out the gap between more gears would have been a solution.

Audi figures are always quoted 'dry' where as industry standard is to quote with fluids, a percentage of the fuel tank (90% from memory) and a 75kg driver - I believe a typical figure is the one quoted in the price lists available on this site, from memory the TDI 75 SE is about 1150kg and climate alone adds nearly 30kg. I'm sure mine is 1183kg.

OK, the weight in service on my CoC/V5 is 1020kg, Dan's is 1200kg. 45kw/1020kg is 0.044, 55kw/1200kg is 0.045 so the 1.4tdi still has a (slightly) better power to weight ratio. But if you put the same load in both vehicles, the 1.4tdi will have an even better p/w ratio.

Rab,

My 1.2 has heated front seats. It is an option on Nordic 1.2's sold with climate control.
They are listed on the options list and so were installed from the factory.

I think it's called the exception that proves the rule! This is where my info came from, but may be wrong in some instances.

I stand corrected. Heated front seats were a 1.2tdi option!

What is that cool digital board you have in the middle? Nvr seen int before in a A2, retrofitted? But from which audi model cause the 1,2L DIS didnt look like that on my precious 1,2L.
Im interested.
Oh by the way, cheers for the thouroughly write up on your gearbox change.
Will ve interesting to see if i do choose to change to this as well if/when its time for a new clutch.

It's an iPhone using this custom dock I made for the A2: OEM looking Sat-Nav in your A2 using your Smartphone and a Dock.

Using a free app: Car Dashboard

I also use a free sat nav program called WAZE, works well and looks good too.

No links to any of the companies/apps above etc......

Weight in service : 1180kg 80kw 80kw/1180kg = 0.068 or 1000/1180x108 = 91.5 BHP/Tonne.
