I am thinking of colouring the black parts on the bumpers and the sides under the doors the same colour as the car, as i think it will look quite good. I was just wondering what sort of steps are necessary to allow this to be done, i.e
does the surface need sanding down or prepraing in any way before putting primer on??

Cheers

John

You'll ideally need to remove the parts and then clean and prep the areas, which may involve filling any imperfections and then priming.

However, these areas are unpainted for a reason: it is in these areas that stone chips are most common and to be honest, unless you apply very hard laquer and then a plastic anti-chip film on top, it'll look shoddy after a few thousand miles.

that is true!! It just looks quite cool though, but i suppose if its going to get ruined straight off then there is no point!!

The colour will also make a differance if you have a silver or light coloured car, you will have to get the area flat as it will show up all the imperfections. I would just get some good car detail stuff when they're all cleaned up you just can't beat it

Cheers Phil

PS using hard laquer can chip easier than just your normal claer coat and when it does chip it will bullseye like your windscreen (not good)

My Car is fully colour coded looks great!! The only place that needs protecting is the lower front of the Rear arch you could use helicopter tape avalable on ebay(See Pic) . Hope this helps;)
