Boot alarm?

This afternoon I was outside John Lewis (sorry, not Tesco's) and I unlocked the whole car using the remote and then opened the boot only, to load it up.

After a few minutes a high pitch beep started going off, and only stopped when I pressed the unlock button again.

I've never heard this before...surely it can't be the alarm, it was too quiet! Is it possible that as I didn't open any of the passenger doors, that it was some sort of boot alarm?

Anyone ever experienced this?

Hi Stuart,

I haven't found this problem myself with the alarm, however today outside TESCO's (photo pending) couldn't get the boot to shut. Had to flick the lock with my finger to get the boot to shut. Related?

I too had a mysterious high pitched beep a short while after I had locked the car outside the house. I assumed that this was the alarm - can anyone confirm this. I was surprised as I had assume the Noddy car horn would go ff as part of the alarm.

Noise went away when I unlocked the car and all the doors / boot /windows were closed OK.

Hasn't happend since. Perahps something in the car fell down and set off the ultrasonics ?

I had presumed that the stupid high pitched beep WAS the alarm, as I returned to my car to investigate it after walking a but few yards away. It transpired I left all the windows open. Its not much of a deterrent if it IS the alarm

Kaine,
I've had the same problem with a non-locking boot. Seems that the pressure pad is V sensitive and I had already inadvertantly locked the thing. Result - no lock until I pressed the pad again.

I have had the high pitched tone a couple of times when I have locked the car and walked away.

I cannot believe this is the alarm, if it is I dont see the point of having it. My watch is louder!

I can't comment on what your A2's are doing, as I'm still waiting for mine.

But if I try to set the alarm on my Corolla and any of the doors aren't shut properly, it sets off a warning beep at you instead of setting the alarm.
I'm guessing that this high pitched tone is the A2's equivalent.

Have you tried causing it on purpose ?

rich.
