Boot intermittent non-opening issue

As per title really, the boot seems to have developed a sense of occasionally finding the effort of opening to be too much trouble. Neither the switch under the bootlid, or the button on the remote will open it and actually I've had problems too with the emergency release handle from the inside.

What's occurring?

I can't offer anything in the way of an explanation. However I'm having the opposite of this, the boot doesn't ALWAYS want to lock fully...

Wondered if there was a problem that could cause either of these symptoms?

Mine seems to happen more often if there's recently been a "not quite closed" episode, but also possibly when the car has got very hot?

few squirts of WD40?

besides that, try seeing if the opening is an issue when the boot is opened (not latched). Check behind the rear lamp cluster and see if the actuator is working, to rule out electrical issues.

I found that the simple solution to these sort of problems was to adjust the position of the lower part of the mechanism. I just loosened it and re-aligned it. After a few "experiments" with position, my boot opened and shut perfectly! It still does!

dan b, I`ve got the same issue, mine works better in the cold and doesn`t like hot days. My interior safety cord is jammed solid. I did pull off one side of the inner panel, to investigate but, the nasty cracking noise it made sounded like lots of clips breaking, so I stopped and left it alone.
Since then, every time I`ve gone to have a go at investigating, tools in hand, the poxy thing will not open, the neighbours must think I`m bonkers.
Looks like I`m bouncing the back of the car up and down.

However, it opened today............,???

So I hope someone has overcome this problem, and can solve your hatch. Then I can do it to mine.

The clips are quite strong, just be brutal but take your time, I've done this a number of times, the first time was a squeaky bum moment but it all was ok, the second time was much less stressful.
