Boot Light Failure?

It would seem that my boot-light has finally stopped working, after months of becoming more intermittent.
I think other members have had this problem as well

The problem for me is the switch/sensor rather than the bulb.

Does anyone know where the switch actually lives? ie Door-lock or frame surround. I dont want to rip the whole car apart to find out!

My light also went - or so I thought. Until I realised that if you open the boot only from the fob the hazard lights didn't flash anymore to show that the car is armed again... so it had to be a switch. But Audi replaced it free of charge under warranty... why do you want to do it yourself?

Hi Johann. I only had the 12-month Audi warranty on my A2. + I don't especially trust my local dealer & I'll be overcharged for any work done.

As an electronic engineer working in the field of lamp-control, I would feel humiliated if I couldnt fix it myself!!

I'm still waiting for a new boot lock to fix this fault on my car. With the tailgate open try locking the boot with your fingers then operate the remote/fob and see if light comes on in boot - it should prove that the locking unit is to blame - I thought it was friction in the unit but I think there's a wireloose somewhere in the tailgate

How is it that you only have a 12 month warranty? My car is also a 2001 model and I have 3 year's warranty... they fixed the brake light thing just the other day as well as a new cigarette lighter... Are you sure you only have 12 months? (It is usually 12 months pan European warranty and then 2 years warranty with your dealer - both Gatwick Audi and Docklands Audi have done warranty work on my car AFTER the first 12 months...)

I now have this exact problem - which I asked Audi to look at last week's bank breaking service. They apparently need to order a new switch or lock or something and will fix it under warranty when it goes back next week.

Are you coming to the club social?

Although a common problem, the reasons seem to be varied. My light was inop (as well as my boot being hard to close) until my last service. According to my dealer, only an adjustment was necessary (and at no cost)to remedy both problems.

Not had a problem with the tailgate light but did rectify a fault on the glove box light.
Apparently the light comes on when you either have you side or main lights on but mine did not light up so removed glove box and found switch to be a basic circuit which comprised of 2 metal contacts being pushed apart by a piece of plastic which is mounted on the glove box left hand hinge as you look at the front of the glove box.
The piece of plastic had weirdly snapped off and was stuck between the plates of the switch don't know how this has occured but managed to repair it with glue and a tie-strap seems to be as good as new.
One idea to as to how this happened is if you put any pressure on the glove box door like leaning on it when looking in the glove box it flexs the hinge thus flexes the piece of plastic which i think over time snaps it off not a great design in my mind.
Just thought i would let you all know about that problem just incase you experience any problems with your glove box light.

Many Thanks
