Boot light intermittent fault...

Hi everyone,

I am experiencing an intermittent light fault on my boot light. I started troubleshooting, measuring volts and resistance, and found no real problem. I was getting really irritated, when suddenly the light came on.
I then figured the light switch had to be located in the boot locking mechanisme. By locking the lock with a screwdriver i can by exercising it a few times, make the switch work as intended. But once the boot has been closed for no more then 15 mins, the light takes forever to come on.

So does anyone have an idea on how to remove the boot door liner to access the lock? I have tried a bit but don´t want to break og destroy anything.

Thanks.
And on a side note, just bought some sweet "new" 16" SE wheels, and the next day i busted a wheel going through a raoad construction zone. On tarmac and with the other traffic, this develish little thing had to shread my tire and damage my rim. So until I get new tire on my new wheels, I am stuck on my winter wheels. Tough luck.

Have a great day.

I had the very same problem as you sometimes it work everytime then not at all, i replaced the bulb still the same so i replaced the hole lot with a LED and its never missed a beat since. The LED is not the bulb type its one on the curcuit board

so as not to start a new thread I am resurrecting this one

I noticed tonight the there was no light in the boot... where abouts is the bulb/light fitting??..

did a little checking today.. it would seem that the DIS2 doesn't show the boot as open in the display so i guess the issue is with the switch in the boot latch

If I remove the latch is it possible to repair/replace the microswitch or do I need to buy a whole new assembly??

.. any hints or tips?.. maybe a part number for the microswitch?

just proven that one for myself.. I can see a black plastic 'hammer' arm that when you close the boot and activate the latch should be released and move across the inside of the housing and press the microswitch.. in mine it gets a little stuck on the last 2mm so doesn't make the distance to press the switch

I played around with some wd40 and cleaned it a little.. it works a few times but then the same issue came back.. it is as if the entire nylon mechanism is moving around in the housing and in certain positions wont allow the arm to move fully.. I can get it working (it is not the microswitch) but it is too unreliable to be put into service, it could fail and leave the boot light on and drain the battery..

As you say the entire assembly is sealed and the plastic housing wont come off without a fight.. I will bite the bullet and order new parts to fix this one... sent an email to Stoke Audi on this forum to get a quote.. do you know if this is a common part so maybe I could pull one from any Audi at a breakers?

Thanks for the input.. it is such a shame that the assembly wont come but c'est la vie

I had the same problem on my A2 and so decided to bit the bullet and replace the latch mechanism.
I was putting it off due to the need to remove the boot lining but I looked at the advice here and tried...
It was remarkably straightforward and even for someone as bad at fiddly as me it proved remarkably easy. I took the lining off from the top right hand side and then around the bottom and finally prised off the top left corner.
I used cardboard from a supermarket delivery box to hold the lining out as I moved around.
Changing the latch is also remarkably straightforward using just 2 bolts and none of the all to soft Audi screws (what a nice change). The whole process took around 25 minutes.

One tip that may help is that the bottom clips were not holding tightly on reattaching the trim and so I closed the boot and tapped them back in from the inside of the car using a wallop from the palm of my hand. Also check the lever works before putting the boot trim back in...
