Boot Struts

The original ones lasted 16/17yrs so I'm pretty sure these will last the lifetime of me owning the car, I didn't realise how much of a difference new struts would make, The boot now opens itself as soon as you pull the catch. ?

I recently purchased a pair of "Stabilus" struts from Germany. They certainly don't allow the boot to open itself as soon as you pull the catch! I've been a bit saddened by that! So what type have you fitted, that DO assist the boot opening to that degree?

Here's the link to the ones I ordered

I was planning on ordering Stabilus one then noticed Jellybean's post regarding these ones and I'm glad I did after hearing your report on the Stabilus struts

It looks like you've created a rush! THREE sold in the last 24 hrs! (but still two available) There's a 60 day return allowed, too ....
If I get these, too, that'll be 3 sets I've purchased, recently. I could do with being confident that they DO give good initial assistance when lifting the boot ....

it was just the length of them i was going to cross ref

I have a pair from the same seller that I've never removed from their packaging, which has stickers on, saying "8Z0827552A 420N". Doesn't tell you who made them, but may help in determining which variant they are intended to be.

After reading your post I ordered a set of these, I managed to get them fitted today and on first impression's they seem to work really well considering they only cost just under £17.50 for the pair, so even if they last half the time of genuine Audi struts they're still a good buy.

Reviving an old post.... I ordered a pair of these and just fitted them as my old struts were very weak. For sure they lift the tailgate very easily but they hit the stops rather abruptly at the top with a clunk rather than decelerating smoothly which was a bit disappointing. Has anyone else who bought them found this, guess it’s the price for not going the OEM route?

Install them like this:

this will make them stop slower.

Thanks, excellent suggestion. Yes it‘s a lot better now, still a bit of a bump at the top if I was really being fussy but I’m happier now.

I ended up buying a set of febi bilstein ones (which in the febi bilstein packaging /bag were stabilus struts)

Hi Guys. Just looked for this thread. My trunk door is not staying put at any position other than the one gravity dictates, so I guess its time for me to change the struts. Here in Greece, I can only find these ones: https://www.auto-parts.gr/shop/antallaktika/amortiser-port-mpagaz/audi-magneti-marelli-ap-030608300
Does anybody have a clue about them? A friend here, said they are OK. Any other feedback about them?

Furthermore, will I be able to replace them myself or shall I take them to the store to fit them for me?
Thank you!
Stavros.

Never used them personally. But if all you can get then better than as is now. Super easy to fit yourself, just have someone hold the tailgate open as you swap them over one at a time. Make sure they are the correct length compressed and expanded to suit the A2.

I pulled the trigger on a new pair from Audi Tradition. They were expensive, but given the originals are only just starting to show signs of age at 16 years, I reasoned that never having to touch them again once fitted was a good enough rationale to stay genuine.

Will come back to this thread and post a video of my boot lid opening once fitted so this can be used to gauge the performance of tired originals or new non-OE ones if that would be appreciated?

Good idea, I ordered a set of struts from the audi a3 8 L. Supposedly same length compressed and same expansion rate as the a2, but with an extra force of 50N compared to the original 370N for the a2.

I will try to post a small video as well as a reference for potential buyers
