BOSE in A2: worthwhile?

Hi all.

I'm thinking about ordering an A2 and pondering which options to get, hence this question.

Is the Bose any good in the A2? Is it worth the UK option price (approx 450 GBP)?

I've had Bose in my last 3 Audis: TT Roadster with Chorus I head unit, A4 cabriolet with Symphony II, RS4 with Symphony I. It was very good in the TT, fantastic in the A4 cab and is very good in the RS4. So you'd think I'd be sold on it. But a recent A4 avant Audi loan car had Bose and it was quite poor - sounded 'muddy' and generally lacking detail.

I know that the Bose setups differ between models (eg TT Roadster has a better system than TT coupe) so I'd appreciate your views on the A2 system. Particularly if you can compare with one of the cars I mention above.

Many thanks in advance,
Richard.

Hi viffer,

I have the Bose and am very pleased with it.
I had Bose in my S3 wich imho sounded poo -very bass heavy. - but also listened to the bose in a tt and found that to be good.
So not sure if my s3 was a one off, but the a2 certanly gets the thumbs up from me. Was doubtfull at first but the salesman offered me a deal in choosing the option - which helps.

I got BOSE, was already in the A2 when purchased, so that was a bonus. I find that it only really comes into effect once the volume is at 10 or more, and also depending on your base setup.

Hi
Ive never listened to BOSE in cars, but I know it would be bottom of my list for a home system. The bass is so wobbly and ploppy ,due to it haveing to do most of the midrange aswell, because the main speakers are so little. Sub bass is supposed to be none directional, but the BOSE subs(sorry Base Module!) can be pinpointed due to the
higher frequencies it produces.
Sorry got sidetracked, have never heard a car system so this is prob all rubbish.
Just my opinion.

No highs, no lows, thats BOSE...

The A2 is very easy to retro fit some proper audio gear in, a decent head unit, small amp and good front speakers will out perform the bose upgrade. It's not that hard to get a sub in either..

At low volumes ie 5 to 9 (well I have the kids in the car) I find that the sound is excellent with a nice rounded feel to it, I had a bogo A2 as a courtesy car once (symphony 2 as mine but without BOSE) & hated the sound, couldn't wait to get mine back althought the 90bhp tdi was nice, might get mine chipped!!!

I'm puzzled, 'cos ours has a Chorus with just the front speakers and the radio sounds quite good. Maybe, I'm not used to anything much better? The problem I have is that the Chorus plays tapes! Who in the world still uses tapes? (See other threads on the difficulty of getting an Audi CD player into a pre-CANbus car....)

GrayB,
Tape! so thats what that big slot is for!!

Well, you can record your CDs onto tape and use them. I was going to change my bog standard chorus for something better(?), but I found that all the control buttons were minute. I expect to instinctively put my finger on the correct button. My neighbour bought an all signing, all dancing top o' the range radio, the buttons are too far away to see or touch easily and they are TINY. So I'm staying as I am. Ok so I'm a boring old F***.

Quite agree about the buttons - horrid flashing lights and useless controls! Unless.... you can buy some grown up head units, like the Becker Monza I put in our Merc. Even my technophobe partner has got used to that!
