Bose question on auto volume control

Hi all.
Having retrofitted bose to my A2 I'm really enjoying the diffefence over a standard set up. But i'm having to constantly manually adjust my volume up/down for road noise, speed etc. Does the gala function work on bose? Or is there a setting that needs altering via vagcom?
Thanks Steve

If I remember correctly the Gala function works with a speed signal from the dash on most Audi's of the mid 2000's via either canbus or from a direct output........obviously your radio displays in the dash but does it get a speed signal,......... I'm sure Timmus will know.

Is the head unit both earthed and coded for Bose? Do you get the Bose 'splash screen' when switching on the head unit?

You can adjust the GALA sensitivity through the background menu of the Gen 2 head units by holding down the Menu button. Speed information on Gen 2 units is indeed harvested from CAN.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Tom.
Yes Bose on stereo start up. Have tried adjusting GALA function but it makes no difference. Does the gala work on bose and non bose concert2's.
Thanks Steve

Hi Tom.
As I've upgraded my car to bose but kept original stereo, do i need to tell car i have bose. I have coded it as per your previois mail recode-07. Changed 00001 to 00201.
Is there another setting to adjust? I only have vcds lite so unable to alter any settings further up list.
Think it's adapt 66-0 Gala active, 1- Gala inactive Bose audio pilot installed.
Does this make sense to you?

Sort of, but I think you might have misunderstood the options.

Now you have BOSE you need to tell your (Concert?) head unit that you have BOSE installed in the car. I can't remember the codes off the top of my head, but basically it's under the RADIO setting on vag-com. Once done, you will see BOSE across the centre of the head unit when you turn it on.

Hi. Yes i have done that. I get bose on start up of head unit. And superb sound. But it doesn't auto alter volume with speed?
Thanks Steve

Wow, I never heard of the GALA function! Would this work on a 2004 concert head unit or only with RNS-E units??

Hi
Do you have concert 2? (cd player).
Press and hold MENU button for at least 2 seconds to call up the basic settings menu.
The display will show TIMER 1 START press MENU again to scroll through all menu settings.
When you get to GALA setting turn adjuster knob (right hand side )clockwise to increase setting, wait for unit to time out(approx 10 secs) and new settings stored automatically.
It is a handy function(when working).

Thanks Steve, can't wait to try it!

If you do motorway driving at high speeds then this function will save you reaching for the volume knob when you accelerate/decelerate etc.
Handy, and there are some aftermarket stereos brands that also use this function. On my first A2, I upgraded the concert 1(tape player)to a Blaupunkt headunit with usb/bluetooth connect hands free etc.

Andrea, it's enabled on your A2, and set to medium sensitivity, I think. You can set the GALA sensitivity to either 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, where (if I remember correctly) 5 alters the dynamic range of the music more as you drive faster/slower.

It is subtle. The whole point of speed-dependent volume control is that you don't notice the change in volume.

Does the gala work on bose and non bose concert2's.
Yes, having the Bose speaker package doesn't make any difference; the head unit simply alters the output level that's sent to the Bose amp.

Cheers,

Tom
