Brake fault ?

Greetings, I have a fault with my A2 TDI, that has become a problem over the last couple of days.
The car starts fine system check ok! drive off, fine, then when it get a couple mile down the road, you begin to feel the odd flutter this then changes to a problem the limp home system kicks in and the ABS AND BRAKE icon comes on.
This has happened with this vehicle before over the 5 years of owning my A2 when it has stood for a couple of days but with regular use it disapates and i have no problems.
I am aware that the rear drums are worn could this be the problem? or looking at other threads could it be something else? (more costly)
I have not had a diagnostics as yet but may need to considering this option:confused:

Hi Redcap
I don't think the problem is related to the rear drum brakes.
Limp home mode is normally associated with engine problems and I'm not aware an ABS or brake related issue could also trigger this.
Suggest you go for a diagnostic scan asap

Cheers Spike

Brake fault

Well i am back on the road..it has taken so long as once i had the problem Christmas got in the way, then when i phoned to book the vehicle into Midlands VW they just had to much work, but lessons from the passed made me wait until they could accomodate. my problem was diagnosed to be number one injector so it has now been resolved. I don't know if any of you owner of A2's who live by Birmingham use these guys, (Norton Canes Cannock) but i have always found them to be very proffessional and they know their stuff and because of this cost are a lot lower then a main dealer.

Hi Redcap, thanks for the update.
Do you know if the No1 injector was at fault or was it the injector wiring loom ?

Cheers Spike

Oh dear yes, I wonder if it was the injector, or the injector wiring loom as we've seen a large number of loom failures on the forum in recent months. Did they change the loom as well, or just the injector?

The diagnosis from the garage, was an injector replacement, no mention of wiring looms, as i said in my initial post i have been here before but they stripped the engine down and cleaned the injectors, so this has lasted for around two years but unfortunatly number one injector let me down, so guys & gals the question is will the others stand the test of time or will it happen again :-(

Hi there
The problem is is that when you pull the fault code off the ECU, it can't discriminate between a fault with the injector itself, or the wiring to the injector, only that there is a problem with the injector process per se.
Garages are seemingly more likely to replace the injector itself than consider the wiring as the problem.
However, the experiences of this forum would show that in this event, the common cause of failure is not the injector but the loom, and I have to say if you've had this before and it's come back again on another injector, I'd say that that sounds like the loom rather than the injectors. The injectors themselves on the PD engine are pretty solid bits of kit and don't fail that often.

The interesting thing is that the injectors are supplied to garages on exchange - the old ones should be sent back and will be inspected by Audi to see if they're faulty and/ or repairable. From what I've heard, a lot of injectors go back to Audi with nothing wrong with them (not just on the A2) - again it's the looms that are the issue more often than not.

I had the exact same thing on my car only a few months ago. Changed the loom, problem gone. That's just my tuppenceworth.

Thanks Dan b, this is not inspiring me at all, but at least i know more than i did before, i just hope my trust in the garage as being VAG specialists is not miss placed, only time will tell. It is interesting though that you say these injectors are on an exchange as at £300.00 pounds a pop they are not cheap!
