brake pad warning light wont go off

after servicing the front brakes i managed to brake the connector for the front passengerside brake warning light .

it has broken of completely from the main loom which joins on to the abs sensor. so there is no way i can just replace the pads...

how can i stop the light coming on , on the dash board?

the two wires on the loom are not touching each other where it has broken off so i dont understand why the light is still on?

any help in just getting the light off would be great. i am not bothered about having a warning that tells me when my pads are low.

I think sensor wire embedded in the brake pad wears through and this breaks the circuit and puts on the warning lamp. On that basis the light should go out of you connect the sensor wires together

cheers. it often would come on if i hit a pothole and then go off sometimes.

i will take your advice...

many thanks

The only sure-fire way of solving this problem is to solder in a new loom from inside the engine bay.

I've done several of these now as the issue seems to be getting more common, as the plastic housing gets brittle with age.

Mike

The warning light goes off after the pad swap, or do i need to reset it via the vagcom interface?

If the connections are fine, then the light goes off once a circuit is made, i.e. when the new pad is attached. The light is reset every time you turn the ignition on and off.

Cheers,

David

soldered the wires together today and the light has gone off:)
put lots of electrical heat shrink wrap around it to so water does not get in.
