Brake pad warning

Hi all,

I've had the brake pad warning light on for a week or so. Just came on as I was driving on the motorway. I just stopped off at the garage to price up pads...the guy took a look at the ones on the car (front) and said they had plenty of life in them still. Rear pads/discs/calipers were changed a year ago also so it wouldn't be those. If that's the case how can I reset the warning light so it doesn't squeal at me everytime I turn the ignition on?

Did the garage check to see if the brake pad wear wire loom was still intact leading to the front nearside pads. 🤔

No, the fella was just finishing with another customer as I pulled up so he just had a look at the pads as it was parked outside. Is it something I could see if I looked quickly? Where abouts would I find it?

You can see it.....turn your steering wheel on full lock to the left and look at the back of the front nearside wheel from the front of the car. Trace the loom from the pads and check to see if its broken/disconnected. If its damaged I think A2 Steve was selling one or two recently. You can still buy new looms from Audi for around £60. It should look something like this.....

This is a common fault. There are solutions using either a short or long repair cable. See my guide:

EDIT Just realised the above thread is when I repaired the socket. Some years later this failed and I spliced in the shorten repair cable inside the wheel arch. This was a VW cable and was much cheaper than the full Audi repair cable. I thought I wrote this up but cannot find the thread.

I've now written it up

Alternatively, here is a thread about using the long repair cable, but that connects through the bulk head into connectors on the A pillar by the passenger door. Alternatively cut the long cable and join inside the engine compartment.
