brake pads and discs

2002 a2 tdi se......just serviced at aire valley workshop skipton........said i need new discs and pads in approx 4-5000miles ( 23,000 on clock ) quoted 150 english pounds..........is it a big job for diy and if easy peasy can someone send me drawing / plans many thanks:)

As you suggest easy peasy, first support car on axle stands, remove wheels etc, undo 2 7mm allen headed bolts holding caliper to carrier, support caliper I use a bungee fixed to the spring, remove bolts from carrier to hub, undo screw to disc which sould then pull off, you may need to 'pursuade' with a mallet. clean up the mating face of the hub, clean new disc with brake cleaner and fit. refix carrier to hub. Remove both old pads from caliper (nearside has an electrical connector to unplug too) push back piston, I usually release the bleed nipple to allow the fluid to push back without overflowing and messing the paintwork, clean all surfaces and coat sparingly with copperslip where pads touch carrier. fit new pads and refit caliper into carrier, this bit can be tricky, take your time swear a few times and it will go, check all bolts twice, pump brake pedal a few times (engine off) and it will go hard, refit wheels, Carefully road test, Skipton can supply the workshop info for a very reasonable sum, I'd recommend getting them from him. I used EBC green stuff pads and their discs now braking is even better than with the OEM gear.

dont always go for price, o for quality aswell, check the brands / quality of disc/pad you are getting.

for £80 ish you can get a brembo disc/ebc pad setup from GSF, which you could fit youself.

A2Look, i've spoken to GSF a number of times now and they say that the brembo discs they do won't fit the A2, i've tried to get them to check the diagrams becaus i know Spike off here has this brembo/ebc set up but they keep making me sound mad by sayin they won't fit? Does anyone have a part number and can definately verify that said parts will fit my 2002 A2 1.4 petrol?

Tis quite annoying seeing i've just bought a discount card from a2oc.net for GSF for these parts and im being refused the parts because they apparently won't fit?!

Cheers Spike, funnily enough i couldn't find that thread before i posted, but i just found it as i got an email saying i had a reply on the forum :)

Mike

GSF do say that - they said the same to me aswell

SO.. i told them to check the part number on mk4 gold front discs and find out if the A2 ones are the same. They then conceeded that they were the same :)

Ask for brembo 60180 or 60180F if y

Ask for brembo 60180 for standard vented discs or 60180F if you want grooved discs.
