Brakes frustration after VCDS bleed, advice appreciated

An old trick is to block the brake pedal overnight, it forces the air out the master cylinder. you might need to disconnect the brake lights.

Are the rear brakes adjusted corectly ? the self adjusters aren't not great ....

Right, looks like I can call this thread closed! :)
I manually bled the rears and clutch then did a VCDS bleed on the fronts.
The pedal is rock solid now and feels great. I took her for a spin in the sunshine and she’s running better than anytime in the past year.
Still got the ABS warning light but after inspecting the cables as Mitch as i could and not seeing any visible damage I’m going to take it to my local independent Audi specialist and it’ll probably be the sensor.

Sincere thanks to everyone who contributed in any way to helping me improve my understanding and skills.

Excellent news! The ABS error looks like its an electrical issue. You need to very carefully check the wiring loom as it comes down the strut to see if it has been rubbed by the wheel and tyre, especially if wider or non standard wheels have been fitted or the cable incorrectly routed. A new sensor is not that expensive if needed.

Now mark the date in your diary as two years from now you will need to flush the brake fluid to comply with the service schedule.
