Broken rear section open sky

I have looked at a car today although it seems the rear section of the open sky is broken! Does anyone know how involved it would be change this?

Probably just stuck - my car was like this when I bought it and after jacking the car up on alternate corners it released and with some silicone spray has been fine ever since.

Simon.

No the rear section that doesn’t move is shattered just before the boot lid (not the boot lid)

ok that would be a bit more involved - think A2Steve has a technique where he lies on his back in the boot and uses his feet to push the glass out but don't know if that would work with a cracked one.

That’s interesting so it’s not an end of the work job? It’s mostly shattered but not that bad

@A2Steve do you remember the process of doing this?

@sellers does any one have this sections for sale?

I will have that section shortly. The rest of the roof was shattered and fortunately that one survived. Might take me a few weeks until i can get it for you though.

Sounds good, do you know how it could be replaced? As it shows to be a part of the housing for the open sky and not replaceable like the front panel, the 2 sliding glass panels show as replaceable but not this part?

Im not entirely sure as ive not removed it from the rest of the roof yet. I suspect it to be bonded to the steel open sky frame. And will need gently removing much like a windscreen.

That’s what I thought, I haven’t bought the car yet and I’m umming and arrring because of this. It’s a 90 with an open sky and 5 seats also has the rear cup holders high mileage and in ok condition but it’s cheap and however the shattered panel is putting me off.
I wonder how much a glass company would charge to remove and fit...

From personal experience, it is not possible to replace only the rear section. I had to have the whole roof replaced because of damage to just the rear panel.

i have replaced a rear section of sky roof before but on a Smart forfour
i cant see it being a problem to be honest
time consuming Yes
i could have a look for you were is the car located ?

I have a whole opensky unit to give away if anyone wants it. I took the motor out and it’s partially open but still have the motor. Just occurred to me that I need to shift it before a house move in spring!
