Broken spring or Anti-roll bar given up?

I was driving from Leeds a couple of days when I hit a pot hole on the right of the wheel side, I think I was on the A38 ever since on every small bump or bumpy surface the car on the front right side makes a bump. If you put left to right lock it bangs, a metal noise..

You can also hear the bump noise if you take handbrake off and push down on the front right of the car

Any ideas, or is it just my anti-roll bar that has finally given in...
 
hi richard sounds like a broken spring to me---but i could be wrong? not good timing-grrr
 
Any way to tell other than lifting the wheel off the ground, I can't see it broken but I guess it is at the top..
 
Hi Richard-,

When my spring broke, about 75mm broke off from the top end. Look at the top, as you suggest, at the end of the spring. On an unbroken spring the end of the steel is cut straight across. On a broken spring the end is broken across at an angle. If you compare the springs on each side you should see a difference.

I had a broken spring two weeks ago.

The easiest way I found was the car was lower on one side than other. ie gap between wheel and wheelarch.

Also put full lock on and look at the top of the spring and mount and then compare with the other side and you will see a difference.
 
Hi widdy, how much did it cost you to repair? did you just go for standard springs? I wanted FSD's and all the biz but that might be out the question because they cost a little.

I will have a look later, I need to replace a bulb so I will try and have a good look at them..
 
There seems to be alot of springs for the A2 on ebay.

Not sure how they compare to dealers or other outlets

I got the spring replaced under warranty from the dealer I bought the car from. They only replaced the one unfortunately, but can't grumble as no cost to me.

Car has felt so much better since the replacement.
