Building race car

How would this fit in a2. And gearbox too. ?
Any body tried this before? Looks like an nice engine tho. Good torque

Well people have gotten the 1.8t in the car.

So a 1.8 non t should go in.

Apparently 10-15 extra horses from a chip on this engine. So 135-140, very much the figures from the avy but more torque I would have thought. Also Vw large blocks are very solid

Non-turbo should be easier to keep cool on the track too.
Love the look of the yellow lights with the blue paint by the way.

I take it the rear seats are out? so you can probably imagine where I'm going next.

Mid-mounted engine? Obv a lot of work on the rear, but more room for engine choice. Or given the rear chassis layout, rear engine Beetle/Porsche territory. Or even 4wd.

Partly as I was thinking about an electric motor back there, but also after watching the Late Brake Show looking at a Metro 6R4 Group B MG Metro 6R4 review - the loudest street legal car we’ve ever driven!

It's the £20k engine rebuild after 1k miles that stood out though... not cheap this motor sport malarkey :)

It's the naturally aspirated part that's interesting though.

1.8 non turbo seems the right, if only, VAG choice.

Just a thought: watch on the weight of the engine, because to heavy engine will kill the weight distribution (which is already far from ideal) and thus the car will just understeer.
I was astonished by the difference between 1.4 petrol and 1.4 TDI. As they would be completely different cars.

I wish I could give you a sound advice... but I can't.
I'm changing 1.4 engine with 1.4 and it is very tight in there!
TT 1.8 sounds good. Can you change gear ratio from diesel to fit in petrol?
If you can, you can fit smaller tyre(which helps lower C of G).

HI,

Some stuff about weight reduction and balance improvement here, https://www.a2oc.net/community/inde...ion-balance-improvement-simplification.45396/

The problem with an "odd" car like the A2 (in terms of racing) is you really haven't got a lot to go on re engine mods unless you find that same engine being used in a more common car and there being some body of knowledge re tuning. If not, your the pioneer ££££££

As someone who races an Elise id saw weight and poise over power wins out all day long. Before I had the Elise I had an Imprezza turbo and did a few track days in that, the weight and power of the scooby meant that after some quick laps the tyres were graining, brakes fading and engine hissing. Now if the Elise you can bang that round a track for hours and it will be happier than it was queuing to get in to the venue.

To keep the weight down , fit a AUB engine for Fabia. 100bhp standard. Stand-alone ECU with head work and cams plus 4 branch manifold.

Search rally cross lupos from about year 2000.

They were getting near 150bhp from them ..

Exactly. I always smile when people brag about power, but the power wins on straights and thats it.
This week I have driven Octavia with Stage 3 tune (380HP). The car is crazy fast on straights, but then it falls apart. First there is turbo lag and once it starts pulling when you release the throttle there is a also lag before it stops pulling. From my point of view completelly undrivable.

Right power/weight balance and perfect chassis setup is way to go for driving enjoyment and quick laps.

Finaly got an a3 with 1,8 N/A tried to fit it in the a2 an it barely fit between the two front beams. have to fab som new engine mounts and use an shoehorn to mount it.

I need a good 4-1 manifold for this engine, but all i can find is for turbo engines. Does anybody know where I can find a manifold?

Anybody know a good race exhaust manifold that fits the AGN engine. (Non turbo)??
