Thanks Guys

Problem now solved - see below.

I have an silver pano 2001 petrol 1.4 A2, which has been fantastically reliable, with the engine never having not started. I love the car to bits, basically.

However around two weeks ago.The red engine oil pressure warning light started to come on intermittently with beeping.
I assumed it was a faulty gauge and continued to drive the car. The engine sounded fine and the temperature stayed in the normal range.
Last Thursday I brought to my garage to have the issue checked out. When I picked up the car that The owner, told me that there was a§
He carried said that he would try to clean out the air intakes and carry out a pressure test later today.
Last night he mentioned after a partial pressure test, which he couldn't complete as the engine was overheating (he showed me signs of coolant having forced its way out if the container).
that there appears to be worn (main bearing perhaps?) and that I might need a new engine (he can source a used one). That he would confirm this later today.

Could there be anything else that could be the cause. Faulty oil pump. Blocked oil pipe into engine sump. Black sludge of death (I have been using part synthetic oil for a while now).

All advice welcome.

Cheers in advance.

Guys,
The mechanic found condensation in the exhaust, which was leading to a blockage of oil and hence high oil pressure. He told me that the blockage of oil was caused by the sensor in the waterlogged exhaust sending too rich an oil mix through the pipes.
He thought the engine at 120k sounded too sweet for the piston rings to have gone.
So. problem solved. Thanks for once again for listening. And hopefully this might prove helpful for the future.

Cheers

Andy
