I'm just about to take delivery of a new 1.6fsi "sport". Every demonstrator I saw (and customer cars)at dealers all had "curbed" alloys and looking at the design it's not really surprising. I have therefore specified the smaller SE rims & tyres. They don't look as good but seem to be a much more practical solution. Anyone had any experience with the "sport" suspension and the 16" rims?

My thoughts as well... those wheels look very nice, but the tyres somehow look as if they taper away at an angle and expose the alloys even more... The tyres fit the bigger Audis far better with the same 10 spoke design...

... I had a 130bhp A3 TDI sport as a courtesy car when mine when in for its only service so far... it had the same wheels and the service guy told me specially to be careful of kerbing. On returning the A3 he walked around the car and only checked the wheels and not the body! hehehe So maybe all the sport wheels are kerb magnets!?

I now have my A2 sport with 16" rims and, after 250 miles over the weekend, I'm pleased to say that the Sport suspension and 16" wheels seems to work well. There is a definite improvement in ride quality and it will take a better driver than me (or a track day?)to really notice any real difference in grip.

What is not so good is that I have a vibration between 70 and 80 mph and worse still the performance is absolutely lousy. There is a complete lack of torque and the engine feels strangled (even when revving in neutral) and there is hesitation when accelerating on a light throttle. I bought this car based on the performance etc. of the demonstrator I borrowed for a weekend, which was truly excellent. I am left suitably unimpressed and, needless to say the car will be back with Audi tomorrow. Anyone experienced similar problems?

I have aTDi Sport and whilst it was in the garage a while back, (actually because of the wheels, because of the size of the wheels, the wires that lead to the ABS sensors rub at a certain lock! On going problem that Audi have to sort) I had a FSi and it ran like a sack of spuds! Really lacking oomph! So I told them it ran awfully. Just as you describe. Then last week I had it again whilst my car was back in for the same thing, well, I don't know what they had done but it was a huge improvement, really quick of the mark, good acceleration, etc. I suggest that you go and see your dealer.

I can really recommend the 16" rims with the sport suspension Fiona. As far as my 1.6fsi is concerned, looks like I'll have to take the matter to the top as my service people reckon there's nothing wrong. If they are right (doubtful)there'll be fsi for sale soon.

1.6 fsi Sport but with 16" rims. Combination works well.
