Hi all,
I've just discovered this website, while surfing for A2 information.
Have been searching for months for a replacement to my MG, as I'm soon to be a first time mum :)
Discovered the A2 only recently, yet fell in love with it less than 5 minutes into the test drive.

However before the big purchase tomorrow I had a couple of questions I was hoping you could answer.
First was roof racks - apparently with the Open Sky you cant have them ! Bit of a disaster as I live in Switzerland, and go skiing quite a bit. Anyone know why ?
But am willing to put up with that problem if these issues are cleared...

Secondly, is it normal to experience an awful noise when driving with the windows open ? With the back ones, I understand thats its because of the shape of the car, but does it always happen with the front wondows open ?

Lastly, if anyone with a pushchair can reassure me that there really is enough space in the boot (once you've taken the spare wheel out), I tried it out with a 3 wheeler, and it was okay, but the 4 wheeler wouldnt get in !!!
Switching from an MG, I'm finding it hard to have too big a car, so the A2 was perfect.

Its a second hand one with only 8000 kilometres, so if anyone has any tips for what to check for before I buy it, I would be more than grateful !

Many thanks !!!

Welcome to the forum, Sarah-Jane, and congratulations on your impending arrivals :)

With respect to the roof-rack + OpenSky, my understanding is that it isn't possible - this is certainly Audi's line - however, I've seen one in a local car park recently with a roof-rack... If I see it again I'll find out the model. There are some pictures on this subject on the main A2OC site: http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/tips.htm#roof1

I can't comment on the noise while driving with the windows open - I don't - however I can confirm that the boot is easily large enough to accommodate large four-wheeled pushchairs with room for shopping into the bargain.

Hope this helps...

Hi Sarah-Jane,

Firstly, you are right about the fact you can't have a roofrack with Open-Sky. I believe this is because the main weight of the roofrack would be supported on the glass - due to the lack of gutters to clip into.

Can you define the awful noise? It has been mentioned in the past on here that it is quite turbulent with one front window open. A cure for this is to open the opposite rear window about an inch or two.

As for the pushchair, don't know. No little people yet!! How old is the car? There were some issues with very early A2's but these now seem to have been eliminated over the last couple of years.

Have fun tomorrow.

Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.

Hello!

I have put the roofrack on my A2 (with open sky system), as far as I could see it is possible, because no part of the roof rack is sitting on the glass itself. But it seems Audi does not recommend it,because if you would try to open the roof with the rack on it, it would certainly break....

I´ll post some pictures tomorrow!

Bye, Frido

Audi could just have put a note in the handbook stating that you can fix a roofrack but just don't open the sunroof and then you would take own responsibilty for breaking it if you forget that you have stuff on your roof (clearly visible through the glass in the first place!). If they had put their minds to it they could have included a little switch that if depressed by a roof rack bracket would stop the roof from opening...

The sunroof also does not auto-close from the fob because the roof does not have anti-pinch retract like the electric side windows do, so again Audi does not want to give the driver the responsibilty to use his/her eyes and close the thing when it is safe to do so... sounds so American to stop people from sueing them and yet, the A2 has never been intended for the USA or are even sold there...
