Buying - New or Used?

I'm really keen on the A2 even though I've only had one test drive. However, thinking ahead I can only see three reasons why I should buy new over used -

1- Get the spec you want
2- Could get one of the first 90ps TDi's
3- The novelty of owning a new car.

Well, up till now I've always had a new company car every three years and whilst it's nice to get a brand new vehicle, is it worth the price you pay when you consider the depreciation.

My dealer says he'll have a 90 ps in by the end of this month so presumably there will be demos for sale by the end of the year which is when I need the car by.

Getting the spec you want is, IMHO, the biggest reason for buying new. My dealer has loads of used A2's but not one of them has leather or electric rear windows. What are the chances of me finding a used, low milage TDi with leather and electric rear windows in a colour I like?????

Hi Ham,

I think your chances are good. My local dealer always has a good selection of A2's for sale, including relatively new high spec ex-demos. For some reason, they seem to shift demos only after a few months - I guess thats to enable them to demand a higher price.

Interesting topic - If you look around just for leather it's hard to find a car, let alone with winter pack / bose etc

Quite right. Chances on getting a high spec A2 are good - however chances of getting exactly the spec you want will be low.

The chances to find very high-spec A2´s over here were very good in the last half-year or so, because Audi had two series of demo-cars built (one in 12/02 and one in 01/03) with nearly everything on the options list except full leather interior (only half-leather) and without the multibox-system and towing hook. I bought one of those with 3800 miles on the clock, 4 months old, for €10000 less than the list price....

Bye, Frido.
