Bying parts from EU (or selling to GB)

Hi there, some of you might know I am living in Sweden, I.e. part of EU.
Before you guys left us I both bought a few A2 parts from UK member as well as sold them. Easy peasy.
But how is it nowadays? Are you subject to both customs fees and tax adding to the part cost when you buy a car part from EU?
Or vice versa if you were to sell something to someone in EU?
I have one or two surplus A2 parts that I was thinking could be worth listning here. But if you are having alot of additional costs it might not be a brilliant idea?

the key to a lot of this is an EORI number, which is essentially the old VAT number. Importing to the UK seems to be relatively easy, but exporting is a nightmare. Oh, and the procedures will change again in January.

we have to ship lots at work and the UK is a pain in the neck at the moment.

That EORI thing might not apply for a private person shipping to a private person in UK?

That EORI thing might not apply for a private person shipping to a private person in UK?

Nowadays if a private person in the UK is sent something from the EU the rules are as follows:

- if a private person from the EU sends something to the UK, a UK resident will not pay any import tax
on the total value of a content of a parcel AND a delivery charge of up to £36.00.

So, if you send a part that is £20.00 (that you must write on a customs form) and the delivery from
Sweden to the UK is £13.00, the total is £33.00 then a recipient here will not pay anything.

What those b*****ds did is that if, in your case, the total charge will be, say, £40.00, a recipient here
will pay the tax not on that £4.00 difference between the £36.00 and £40.00, but on the whole
amount of £40.00.

If, however, you are a business in the EU (Sweden), a recipient in UK does not pay any charge for
the total cost of the item AND postage up to £129.00.

I have all these info on the letter that I received from the Customs saying that I had to pay £26.45 duty on
a car part that cost Euro 90.00 with postage of Euro 29.99, which I received from Germany sent by a
private person, NOT a business.

Its around 10% as far as I see, - not that much yet still. One of those millions of unintentional consequences
of Brexit.

The way I read this is come what may you pay VAT at 20% paid in one of two ways. EITHER directly to the EU seller (who is registered with HMRC and eventually forwards it to HMRC) OR to Royal Mail etc. who eventually forward it to HMRC in the case of a private EU seller or seller unregistered with HMRC. Probably not that simple.

For goods in excess of £135 total you also pay an additional 2.5% in Customs Duty (ignoring Excise Duty).

If parts are not too heavy or large? I could bring them back on 12th December, because I am taking a suitcase out to Sweden with mainly Christmas presents for the grandchildren,so it will be relatively empty on the way back. And could forward post in the UK

Thats a thought (and a very kind one). In case the need gets real I could perhaps PM you and we can see how it could be done in more detail.
