CABIN HEATER NOT WORKING!

I may be able to help then. Let me know what you need. Regards, M
Thanks for the offer.
I have ordered the unit from eBay I mentioned in this thread
https://www.a2oc.net/community/index.php?threads/cabin-heater-not-working.34508/
The seller confirmed that it is one from a car with climate control, I hope it's the right part.
I can't read the part number from the image on eBay but have seen others wit the part number 8Z0959501 that look just the same.
Do you have any Idea whether it would be the correct part for my car?

I still have not ordered a blower/fan motor, there are some on eBay listed as part No. 6q2819015g for £15 but that sounds just too cheap.
Do you know if this would be the correct part for my car?

Hi, Ok best of luck with that part from ebay. I have one here somewhere if you do need it.
If you still need a heater blower fan by the time you read this i have one aswell. Removed from a TDi that had climate control. Here is the link for it on Ebay; https://tinyurl.com/y9c3bjan .

Fixed mine. The brushes on the fan needed a good old clean. While I was down there noticed my resistor has cooked too so changed that and cabin filter. That one torx screw for the heater housing is a nightmare.. trying to look into an easier way to do it if there is one!

Now to fix my dodgey temperature reading. Never get above 70 degrees. Coolant level is fine so might change thermostat (being cheapest) and see what happens worse case scenario I have same temp but at least it rules out the thermostat.

Any suggestions?

MY OB11 doesn't show a fault however, my independent garage with a Bosch diagnostic get a fault code for flaps. They are seeking advice before they revert to me. I have had a quiet moment to listen to the flaps and you can hear them moving (or trying to move). Despite coming up to temp the fan has not worked. Suspect garage will revert with a couple of options. Any suggestions here welcomed.

Position sensor maybe?
I have been driving the car with no heating fan running and no temperature gauge working over the past few days and have discovered that the side vents get warm after a period of time, especially if I crack he windows open a bit.
Also, if I set the flaps to the up position with the controls on the dash the centre vents will get warm too.
So, at least for me I do thik that these flaps are working.
I have had to use a squeegee on the inside of the windscreen to 'demist' it before I can drive as it does not demist by the windscreen vent for quite a while after starting to drive it.
I am taking it to the garage tomorrow to ask for the sensor and thermostat to be replaced and work from there.

Sounds like you have the same symptoms I had. Partially seized blower motor. I could feel heat through the vents but not blowing force out of them. Turned out that the fan was partially seized so basically it worked but to get it spinning at whatever speed I set it at on the control would require a good amount of voltage through it. Hence why when I hooked it up to the direct 12v it span fine. At the lowest setting on the fan it only requires 3.8v so obviously it wouldn’t move.

Not going down another avenue Andy, I have had the sensor and thermostat replaced, but the fan was still not turning, the fan motor is broke (readily available replacement) and the "fan speed controller" (for want of a better description) AKA "climactic control unit" (possibly not the correct technical term) also needs replacing, this part apparently is not readily available hence the request.
A wiring fault was also fixed (ABE).
Sorry for the brevity of my last post.

Fan speed controller usually is the resistor? I always assumed the resistor is the component which dictates the flow of electricity to the fan therefore making it operate slower or quicker based on the flow?

The part number for my blower motor is 6q2820015e they vary between models even though they look very similar. You wouldn’t be able to tell unless you pull yours out and look unfortunately.

If I'm following this thread correctly it looks like the fan controller being discussed is the finned unit for the radiator fan.

For the 'cabin' fan controller

check item 10 on this parts diagram - https://audi.7zap.com/en/rdw/audi+a2/a2/2003-248/8/820-820010/

Do they vary enough not to be able to be fitted/used between different models?

6Q2820015G seems to be listed against air condit (does that mean climate control?) on the diagram below

I will check the part number myself, if I can get at it, just to be sure.

I am getting lost on what you need and what you have bought, but look at today's Boxys Bargain Bits thread if you are still after parts for climate. - Andy

Hi guys I need your help on this I am really confused. Right about a week ago my fan motor seized up so took it to the local garage that I know. So he took the part out sprayed it with wd40 and got it up and running again for the time being. So in that mean time of ordered the part from ebay the same one with the same part numberon the fan motor and replaced it and the problem that I am having is that when I start the car from a cold start it works for say about 10mins or slightly more then I have nothing coming out of the vents but it's on on the climate control unit. I need your help on this guys it's sending me the wall on don't know what to do next could it be the fan or something else is causing it to do this. Thank you all for reading my post most appreciated

I had a fan failure on my oldest Y reg A2, usual symptoms, CC bars went up then fell back. Removed Glovebox, checked fan was working by removing plug from resistor unit and putting 12v straight into it, fan ran correctly. Reconnected and same problem again. Tried the same thing again, fan worked when directly connected but not when controlled by CC. Tried a third time but reversed polarity, hey presto, fan working properly now.
My guess is that the fan motor brushes had got varnished and running the motor backwards for just a few seconds was enough to remove it but thats just a guess, plenty of other possible causes and I'm not sure how long till I have the problem back.

If removing the fan and finding it seized then spraying it with wd40 and refitting made it work for a short while. Logic tells me that the fan needs to be replaced. If the fan seized and had power on to it fir possibly several weeks of driving. That would have damaged it (motors like that don’t last if seized and powered up) so replacing the fan is necessary whatever the cause is. I would refplace it with a good used one if expense is an issue or new if you can afford it. That should work but even if it doesn’t it needs replacing anyway after been seized.
If that doesn’t work then it it the controller.

I had a look and after getting the glove box out I could see the part number without removing the blower motor, it is 6q2820015c.
It makes me wonder what exactly the differences between all the parts with different part numbers actually are.

I have a warm car again at last!
The blower fan/motor, and the two fan controllers were replaced.
Once I had purchased them it was hardly worth doing any more diagnostics so the garage just replaced them all.

The temperature gauge is still a bit flaky though it is working. The garage said that the ECU shows the engine reaching temperature OK though.
Driving it to work for the first time after getting the heating working this morning ; After 10-15 min of driving it will lift off 60, then after another 10 min or so of motorway driving it will get up to 80, it will then fluctuate going down in traffic and back up again when driving 60-70 mph, and reaches quite a constant 80 after the full 40-50 min of my drive to work. I will monitor this over the next few days and get a OBD2 scanner to check the temperatures compared to the gauge.

Forgive me if you have already done this but they are the classic symptoms of a thermostat failure. Did you have it replaced??

If you did then it may be that the new one is faulty. But as I say these latest symptoms indicate a failed thermostat.
